I am ecstatic at dd going to DHS for an additional reason. My older children did HCL but as a subject to be studied and promptly forgotten after Sec 4. Now they are regretting it because they realise that it is helpful in their life after school. I also heard from a Indian friend that her lawyer husband has been taking Mandarin classes for the last 2 years. I was thus very happy to hear the principal actually speaking in Mandarin and the whole school so 'chinese'. All the students there that we spoke to spoke very fluent English though. I hope that with an English speaking background, dd will really be effectively bilingual after 6 years in DHS.

      :xedfingers: about GP.........

haha, is the whole sch really so chinese ?? think esp the presence of the Confusicus statue šŸ˜‰ šŸ˜‚
Most of the pupils are effectively bilingual even some of the teachers.
take for example my gal's HCL teacher,
she is able to translate fr chinese to english shd she find her pupils having diffculty in understanding her lessons.

Haha, yeah, the school IS very chinese. The principal, Dr Foo speaks chinese fluently, and one of my classmate's form teacher is a HCL teacher but speaks english fluently too. I hope i won't find too much of a difficulty, because even though I took HCL in primary school, i have an English background and speak mostly English at home. :xedfingers:

Hi, i m wondering about the buttons on the blouse. we nid to button up the first button when wear tie but when not wearing tie nid to button up the first button? one more question, do we nid to tuck in our blouse? thank you.

When you're not wearing the tie, the first button does NOT need to be buttoned. I heard one of the Student Councillor in charge of my class tell my classmate.
And yes, we do need to tuck in the blouse.

      Hi all šŸ˜„

Do many Sec 1s use the MRT?

Any opinion on the choice between school bus and MRT (Mountbatten)?
Hi, i take the school bus to school every morning, and MRT back home daily.
In my opinion, for convenience, you could choose taking the school bus because it'll probably stop below your block, so you don't need to travel far, and also if it's raining, it'll be easier. However, the school bus has to pick up other students along the way, which increases travelling time. My school bus takes at least 1 hour to reach school, whereas MRT is faster. In my opinion, if you would like your child to sleep in more, i would recommend the MRT, so they can wake up a little later (i wake up at 6am daily and reach school at 7.10am!!!) and still reach school on time. Also, letting your child take the MRT could teach them some independence too. It's like killing two birds with one stone.

      Fat Mama:

Heard DS complain about an email regarding colours on the shoes. No coloured logos or patterns or whatever.

Did ur DD mention anything on that?
Dun know if they will implement bata shoes only. šŸ˜‚

Oh dear :yikes: ..... my dd wearing converse shoes.
She wore them in primary school with no problem.

Hi, i'm Year 1 this year in DHS, i wear Converse shoes too (it has a colored stripe at the sides), but so far, when i go to school, no one has mentioned anything about it yet. Furthermore, i never received any such email.

However, i think the school shoes 'rule' is about the same as most secondary schools; some Secondary schools have a rule of etc. school shoes 70% white, 30% can be coloured. While i was in school, i also noticed several seniors wearing track shoes with logos (eg. Nike, Addidas) and stripes, so it should be okay for the shoes to be not completely white.

Haha last night I was scolding my son that school already reopened liao and he has yet to touch any of his S1 textbook, and you know how he retorted? He said during orientation, principal asked if anyone had gone through the textbooks and then told them that there was no need to rush to read the books yet lah!!! (I don't know what to say..)

Haha, that was said so during the Orientation briefing but i think it was said by the level head of Year 1, Miss Lee, not Dr Foo. Anyway, yes, she said that going through textbooks and doing assessments are very hardworking but right now, since it's our orientation, we should put that aside and just try to enjoy our orientation first. Well i guess it's good to be prepared before hand, because once lessons start next week, we're going to need the knowledge. However, i haven't looked through my textbooks too, i'm a Year 1 as well, but by skimming through you get a good idea of what we're learning. In my opinion, that's ample, so there's no need to pile your son with MOUNTAINS of work, haha.

      Interested:
      carebear:

Urgent! Tomorrow which is Thursday, do the sec ones report by 8 am or 9 am? The pink paper states 8 am but the orientation booklet states 9 am. TIA.

Carebear, should be 9am and if you ds/dd taking the school bus they still pick at the same time no later...u may want to re-cfm with the bus driver cos mine might be different driver from yours.

Okay this is one day late reply, but i'm a Year 1 student so i know it was supposed to be report by 8.45am.

If i’m in the Integrated Program, does joining uniform groups like NCC deduct points in my A’ Level results, like it does in O’ Levels? Thanks.
