I thought by asking for appeal letters, the principal is giving these students a second chance? We are only hearing one side of the story. He may sound harsh, but some times, educators 用心良苦,谆谆善诱 but the kids just \"one ear in, one ear out\" and do not take their studies seriously, so now Principal is giving them threats to \"wake them up\"? Furthermore, I do not think any educator in his right mind would ask the students to leave, knowing that they have no alternative route (as mentioned by alyssa12, cannot go Poly or JC because no \"O\" level cert) unless these students are also not doing well in the other subjects and not suited for the IP? jmho

Hope alyssa12 can update us on what happened eventually.
I think he will most likely ask them to retain LOL. That's what happened to most cases which failed to meet his expectations. 😓

Hi, could anyone advise what's the difference between Express Math and IP Math?

I will very much like to know too. Not just for Maths, but for the other subjects.

So far, schools seem to be saying that tuition and assessment books are not advisable as IP is different from O levels. Dd's CL tuition has said that every school uses different things and advises only tuition for compo. Although I do know of students from top schools going for tuition (wonder how their tutors know what to teach). But I also came across a JC Maths teacher who declined to tutor a Y5 IP student because he said IP was different.

I mean, how and where do we get help if our children have difficulty with the IP course, apart from transferring them back to the O levels? What is the source of their difficulty?

Hi, Im speaking in regards of the IP curriculum in RV, so im not very sure if other schools have another way of teaching. In RV, our Year 1 Maths is basically \"Integrated\" and can jump from the Year 1 content in the MOE textbook to the Year 2 content when learning the same topic. Similarly, Year 2 content can also jump to Year 3 sometimes.

When moving on the Year 3, where most schools have the choice of taking E Maths or Additional Maths (A Maths), RV combined the two maths together. Students don't normally know which kind of maths they are taking actually cause it's totally combined. Therefore, I think it will be hard to find tuition teachers as they will not know what content were being covered in school in school as the Year 3s and 4s just learn Maths as a whole. Besides, finding teaching materials can also be quite hard for them as RV uses their own notes (you can almost don't buy the textbooks) and occasionally make some reference to only a few assessment books for a certain topic.

i think other subjects are still relatively easy to find tuition though, such as the languages subjects. 🙂 hope this helps!
The principal recently asked students who scored D7 and below for their HCL O Level to leave the school, as we all know D7 is a pass according to MOE standards, the principal has been very unfair as to have done such a thing to the students. He even asked them to write an appeal letter in Chinese to persuade him to let them stay. Those who scored C5/6 were no better as they were required to write a letter to tell the principal to let them keep their 4H2.
RV is a SAP school, The promotion criteria for ALL Year 1 - Year 4 students includes a B4 for both languages. By the time they get to Year 4/5/6, they would have the basic standard of Higher Chinese right? If not it would have been not possible for them to promote to their respective levels in the first place. Therefore, I think that him asking the students to leave is not a unreasonable act. The students have been given enough time to develop and improve on their Higher Chinese Language. Besides, RV is one of the top schools in Singapore, so it is quite logical for them to have higher expectations for their students. Besides, I think it's only good for the students to leave the school earlier and seek other paths in their education if they cannot even manage or keep up with the RV demanding curriculum in Year 5/6 or the 4H2 subjects in A Levels.

And pertaining to the Ipad concern, the principal have stated that all year 3 and 4s will receive their Ipad3 in around July. Im not sure how this will help in their studies though.
