      Hi to all

May I know if anyone can help with these queries :
      1) how many sets of uniform and PE attire to buy?
      2) Is the book list available at the school website? Website seems outdated.
      3) What is the programe itinerary for tomorrow?

      Thank you very much. šŸ˜‰
Previously we brought 3 sets of uniforms, 3 PE singlets (the boys need to wear MSHS Singlet inside their uniform everyday), 3 PE shorts (you can get 2), 1 Blue Polo Tee which the boys wear to school on every Friday, MSHS socks (compulsory)

For booklist, it was given in the orientation package.

      Welcome to Marist family :rahrah:

Nice! I was told schools starts at 8am. Wonder how is the traffic there in the peak hours..

Is it? We have not been informed of the 8am reporting time. :?

Morning traffic along Bartley Road can be bad as Pri Sch parents also alight their boys along Bartley Road. Most Sec Sch parents will use Mt Vernon to drop off their kids.

Cody, morning assemble is at 732am but the boy must be in sch before 720am on all days except Thursday. Thursday is late day and school starts at 840am, but boy usually in school by 820am.

[/quote]Our considering factors back then, but caveat is, this is purely our own assessments only :imcool:

      Pull Factors of Maris
      1) Pure Express Stream only (like what some parents mentioned, may have lesser discipline issue as compared to most schools with all 3 streams, which I also tend to agree, after these past few years of observation)

      2) Strong GCE O levels performance, with many subjects scoring above National averages for Distinction passes

      3) Dual emphasize on both languages

      4) High COP for their own Maris Primary to enter, hence generally all the students' results are quite close and curriculum should be able to better cater to all students, unlike those schools where the disparity between affiliation and non-affiliation students' COP are very very wide and far apart

      5) Located directly outside MRT station

      6) Impressed by the students who conducted the guided tour

      7) Mac book environment

šŸ˜Ž Our grandchildren can enter Maris primary in future as it's a full school

      Push factors of Maris
      1) Condition of school building, which looks pretty old

      2) Wondering how come COP from on non-affiliation students is so low (eventually found out that due to the higher COP for their own Primary students, which is why there are more places that can be allocated to non-affiliation students, hence with supply higher, it will push down COP)

      Hope this helps :rahrah:

      Hi iemum

let me post my questions here, bcos I think there's some issue with pm...

your DS takes CC line to MS rt? So what time does he leave hse every morning?
Since your DS travelling time is abt 40mins, has there been occasions where he feels like all these travelling is too much for him?
As for school culture, is the school environment nurturing and inclusive? Or only focus on top class and elite students like top students and student leaders. If any boy is falling behind on his studies, does the school or teachers bother? Or just deem it to be the parent and outside tuition job to back the boy?

      thanx

So far didn't hear him complain about the distance in traveling. Very often, we will send him to sch in the morning but he will travel home on his own. On days he needs to travel on his own to school, he will leave home around 620-630am.

Previously when we first brought our boy for the open house, we did have some concerns, one of it was the outlook of the building which looked old. After spending these few years in school, as parents, we have been very happy with the sch and glad that we made the choice back then to put Maris as first choice. The culture and staff made the difference. The teachers will always call and work with us if our child is not performing. Understand that there's also remedial lessons for students who fail maths.

Boys are boys and can be playful, but being an all Express Stream schools , don't see and hear of much discipline issues in Maris.

      Hope the information helps.

Distance does make a huge difference. It is so very tempting to send to the best school the score can get you and I see so many doing this but if there is a good school near by that DC can get into it's a significant advantage.

What if it is the kid who wants to choose the farther school?
DS is impressed by a sch 50mins away from our hse by MRT (DTL then CC line)....I'm a not sure, but he seems so passionate, should I dissuade him? We visited the school and it was like \"love-at-first-sight\" for DS, I like the sch myself, but it is the distance that I'm not sure....but now DS seems determined to put that sch as first choice.

We visited other schools near our house, but this farther school is still his # 1 fav.....the other nearer schs all need at least 30mins of bus commute as well....so no sch within walking distance.

      Anyone with experience to share?

My boy needs to travel to Maris and the journey takes about 40 mins in total. Initially thot that was a big concern, but with the mrt station located directly outside the school, it is so much easier, without the need to change to bus.

Importantly, son gets his choice of school and he is very happy there. With the strong culture, emphasis on character development programme plus dedicated staff, no regrets on the decision made back then.

Thank you for your sharing. I am one of the new parents that brought my boy to the open house today. He likes the school and is quite keen to put it as first choice. May I ask does the school has support for mild special needs children?

I am not sure but would think so... perhaps you can call up the school to find out more with regards to this? šŸ™‚

Maris Stella has open house today too.

Just sent my boy to sch as he is involved in the open house and saw many new parents who are just like us few years back. :lightrod:

Looking back, we have never regretted selecting Maris as our top choice.

The school building may not look new (which was one of the considering factor for us then) , but certainly, after these years, the experience with the teachers and staff far exceeded our expectations. With the strong culture and emphasis on character development programme, I must say that we have made the right choice together with our boy. :rahrah:

      Dear parents,

Checking for a friend who would like to find out how does P3 class allocation works ( her dd is in P2):

      For a P2 with a total score 280 to 289:
Are they assigned to top P3 class, or minimum must be 290 and above?

      Thanks.

280-289 usually will be able to get to top class.

      Hi Beeby,

Just to check, for allocation of classes, is it top 120 will be allocated to the top 3 classes and then the remaining 90 will be allocated to the remaining 3 classes? šŸ™‚ Or allocation is done based on top 40 going to the top class, 41-80 going to second class.. etc?
