    • RE: Nanyang Girls' High School [*IP]

      aikidocat:
      1) Would like to find out more about the subjects that one has to take in year 1 and year 2 and year 3 and year 4 in Nanyang Girls.

      2) What are the examinable subjects and non examinable subjects in year 1 & 2?
      3) What are the compulsory examinable subjects to be taken in year 3 & 4?
      4) Are all students allowed to take triple science or is triple science only for top students while the rest must take only one or two pure science only?
      5) Is it exams by semester like in RGS or is there a major end of year exams with weekly tests like other secondary schools?
      6) Is it very competitive & difficult to get into dance as CCA?

Hope to obtain sonme advice on the above.
I'm from NYGH myself so I hope to be able to tell you parents on how is it like to study in NY šŸ™‚ It has been a really wonderful experience for me! šŸ˜„

1)\tWould like to find out more about the subjects that one has to take in year 1 and year 2 and year 3 and year 4 in Nanyang Girls.

In year 1 and 2, the subjects are LA (English and lit), Chinese, Maths, Combined Humanities (Geog and Hist), Physics, Chem and Bio (one science per term)

In years 3 and 4, it depends on what subject combination your child opts for. LA, Chinese, Maths, Integrated Humanities and at least 2 sciences are compulsory. (It is either triple science, or chem/bio or physics/chem. If your child takes 2 sciences, then she will have to take either lit, Chinese lit, geog or history)

      2) What are the examinable subjects and non examinable subjects in year 1 & 2?

They are Home economics, P.E., Music, Chinese Dance and Art

      3) What are the compulsory examinable subjects to be taken in year 3 & 4?

Integrated Humanities, LA, Chinese, Maths, and the subject combination of your choice. (and 3rd language, if your child chooses to study)

      4) Are all students allowed to take triple science or is triple science only for top students while the rest must take only one or two pure science only?

The benchmark is at least a B for all 3 sciences in Secondary 2, but overall, for my batch, half the level is in a triple science class. Nanyang tries its best to give your child her desired subject combination.

      5) Is it exams by semester like in RGS or is there a major end of year exams with weekly tests like other secondary schools?

There are quizzes almost every week (mostly around 10 marks per quiz) and the scores will be attributed to the final CA or SA marks. However, there are only 3 major exams in the entire year.

      6) Is it very competitive & difficult to get into dance as CCA?

I am not very sure about this but I heard that it is. This is because Nanyang has a very high standard in dance (Gold with honours for SYF)
