      Everybody,

There is a question: What is fertilisation?
1)It is a fusion of male and female sex cells.
2)It is a union of male and female sex cells.
3)It is the transfer of pollen grains.
4)It is the process of attracting insects for pollination.

The question is, what is the difference between fusion and union?

      Thanks!
      ILOVESCIENCE

When fertilisation occurs, the nucleus of the male cell will join up with the nucleus of the female cell to become one single nucleus. So I guess fusion would mean combining 2 parts to become one entity whereby the original
parts can no longer be differentiated or distinguished. On the other hand, maybe union means joining 2 parts together but we are still able to distinguish the original parts inside the new combined form.

      Thanks!
