Hello everyone I am a former RMSS student and I completed my o levels this year (2017).
I enrolled with RMSS for their A math lessons. To give you a more comprehensive and non partisan review, I shall list down what I think are the pros and the cons of using their services.
Pros:
1: plenteous materials, albeit paid for by parents
2: Depending on the class’ atmosphere, it can be rather cheery and fun. However, there has been innumerable instances of unpleasant encounters as well. It also can forge a rather family-like atmosphere, depending on the class.
3. Students often obtain sufficient practice (the negative points, however, will be mentioned later)
Cons:
1: The teachers’ teaching methods are rather shoddy and shallow, at best, mediocre. Perhaps due to their ginormous student body, it has become impossible for Teachers to guide students step by step, although I would prefer to see more effort on the Teachers’ ends as well. Despite sufficient practice, if a student’s concept is still weak, I don’t see how he or she can improve.
2: It can be a huge time waster when it comes to revision classes as I would often perceive it like Nazi concentration camps, whereby huge amounts of students congregate in a classroom for hours, doing test papers. Sufficient practice sounds great doesn’t it? Well not when explanations are often sub par and overall, thereby such sessions are often inefficient for many.
3: Condescension from the administrative staff. You’ll get harangued for submitting your fees late, snarled at too (in a centre with rather opulent upholstery and embellishments, also not forgetting the sometimes kitschy Hermes, or Bottega Veneta, whatever luxury bags flamboyantly sitting on the side of the counter) and it’s pretty ludicrous and vexing to be snarled at especially when we’re the customers although I must say, their attitude has improved drastically and I have not met with any unpleasant yellings for quite some time already.
4. Devoid of personal liberty. How’s that so? Well they have given complementary tee shirts, or the RMSS uniform as they call it, forcing students to wear them during a certain weekend of a month when they have to attend classes. It is pretty crystalline that it’s a desperate and shrewd attempt at advertising for their centre. That’s not my main point. The problem is students get reprimanded for not wearing the uniform. I have always abided by the rules so I’m not some vitriolic and bitter student here, in fact I am appreciative of their role in assisting me to attain A1s in my school exams. But my issue with them is their mannerisms in handling such cases, it rubs people off the wrong way.
5. Quality of materials is unimpressive. I’m not asking for immaculate and intricate, beauteous books but I am asking for a higher quality of materials. Both print quality and form factor wise.
6. The lack of understanding of the students’ psyche. Punishments for forgetting formulas etc or punishments of not being able to complete questions ( due to forgetting certain things) are often imposed, leaving students unwilling to ask, thereby stifling them and limiting their learning potential and stunting their progress. They have yet to seen this point (I feel), and even if they do, the damage has been caused.
7. Despite being insistent on the stance that they care more about their students, I still feel that their methods are immensely inefficacious for the majority, and it isn’t difficult to notice that they’re more of a commercial-orientated business.
8. Large class sizes
Yes you might rebutt me with their roll of achievements, but please also take into account the size of their student body, now I don’t think the amount of distinctions are that splendiferous and spectacular right.
All in all, I think that it is a mediocre tuition centre, irrefutably still improving on it’s ways, and I believe it will become better as time passes by but if one is a weak student, I do not think that it’s the most apposite choice. For stronger or average students, I would say it is worth a try.
Perhaps other tuition centres aren’t anymore spectacular, I don’t know but the aforementioned points are what I can encapsulate from my time in RMSS.

RE: Which school is better???
I am considering to try as the cut off is likely to be lower
Victoria School O level
St Joseph Institution O level
Catholic High o level
Which school is better for a not so sporty student and please consider the environment, quality of teachers, students, programmes, students and o level results
Thanks a lot for your valuable opinions!!! -
RE: Secondary School Selection 2013
Emelyn:
yes. the cut off points for schools like RI, HCI ,DHS will sure drop so probably HCI would fall back to 258 like last time. It may even fall to 256-257256 + 2.
Choices are
1. HCI
2. ACSI
3. NJC
4. CHS
5. SJI
6. Anderson
What is the chances to getting into HCI ? -
RE: Secondary School Selection 2013
ksparent:
Hi my dd scored 257 and a merit in HMT surprisingly. I am struggling between RV and Nan Hua. At first, dd likes RV but when heard that student must get at least a B4 in HCL in yr 1 in order to promote, she wants to go Nan Hua instead because HCL is optional. I am in a dilemma if I should go with her choice. Any one can advise if it is really tough to manage HCL in RV.
I think RV is a good choice if she is independent enough. You might wanna consider Dunman High. It's a very good school. Her score should be enough for DHS. -
RE: What school should I go?
Hello. I have a aggregate of 242 with HMT is 245. I live at the Marine Parade area. I am interested in going these schools. Please kindly give your precious opinions of what school should I go. (Consider the distance, o level results, school of what band, quality of students, environment, quality of teachers, programmes, school system, principal, lessons conducted, well roundedness etc.) I am more of a non sporty type of student and I was educated in a SAP school)
Chung Cheng High Main School
Anglican High
Nan Hua High
Nan Chiau High
St Joseph’s O level
(All of these are gonna be in my choices)
Please help me decide on the school I should put as first choice. Kindly give your opinions. Thanks a million! -
RE: Secondary School Selection 2013
hello. I have an aggregate of 242.(with HCL is 245) is it possible to go for St Joseph’s o level and is it possible to go to Dunman High, Victoria School IP. I know that my mark is about 11 marks away from DHS cut off point but I understand that a lot of students getting 260 usually end up with 251 or 248. I also know that the cut off points would be lower so I don’t know if I have any chance of going Dunman High.
And does anyone know Dunman High &VS ip cut off this year?
