The nygh lion dance cca has been around for a while and I find it really cool for girls to be able to handle the heavy lion head and perform
to the lion dance routines which is really a very male-dominated arena. Good that they are opening this up for dsa to accept talents from other domains who are able-built for this strenuous cca.

RE: New L1R4 system for JC entry
@zac-s-mum
Honestly who knows what they want to do at sec 2 when they select their specialisation to pivot to higher education? Even many A level grads today dunno what degree they want to pursue (my kids included) and esp so if u hv so many options to choose from.
And matter of fact, it’s easier to score in sci/maths subjects than humanities due to the subjectivity element involved. -
RE: New L1R4 system for JC entry
@doodbug
So syllabus need to dumb down. Why should A level students study so much if they want to do law or bizad. Defer the learning at specialised uni level. -
RE: New L1R4 system for JC entry
@floppy
Seems like JC either needs to dumb down the current syllabus or qualifying criteria or do away with science or arts stream to cater to the masses with this new L1R4 requirements. Perhaps also bring back commerce stream and make MI a regular JC again with 2-year track? -
RE: New L1R4 system for JC entry
@bbbay
I am getting confused. What is exploratory subject? Isn’t CL a compulsory subject to take as it’s a language so whether it gets counted in L1R4 is irrelevant? So to go JC science need min 7 subjects to have the foundation to cope with the A level syllabus? Anyways not sure if someone can do H2 maths with no knowledge of A maths (are differentiation and integration taught in E maths?) -
RE: New L1R4 system for JC entry
@bbbay
How should current sec 2 parents strategise the sec 3 offerings to be student ready for JC subject combi? To go science in jc, hv to take EL CL A Maths E Maths, pure Chem, one humanities, pure bio or physics or combined sci. No way can anyone take less than 7 subjects to go JC science comfortably right? And cannot just take A maths without E maths right? How is it more stress-free than currently? -
RE: New L1R4 system for JC entry
If a student only requires L1R4 to qualify for JC, how realistic is the student able to cope in JC science stream coming from potentially a E Math or combined science class? Is MOE dumbing down the A level syllabus? Or is it used to complement the new 3H2 only requirement (H1 syllabus is like a progression from E maths or combined sci in terms of difficulty) so overall reduce stress so students have more time to pursue sports, arts, sustainability or topics of interest?

RE: Singapore universities historical IGP/RP by courses
@bbbay
Yes went to all 3 uni OH that’s why I felt why NTU doesn’t hv RC like NUS. Personally prefer RC/NUSC than other accom types. -
RE: Singapore universities historical IGP/RP by courses
@bbbay
I would also like to know. Saw from this forum last time 90RP straight away give scholarship (NUS/NTU) with no portfolio/leadership. Don’t even need interview. I wonder is this still the case now? SMU all along needs interview for the awardment of scholarship so nothing change.
For my gal at NTU, went interview (by primary major school she chose) in mid jan and awarded late Jan before A results. After results, was awarded another once-off monetary award. -

@bbbay
Hahahaha u forgot about the potential noise pollution from the construction of the JRL or the army exercises and the invasion of the monkeys at the halls nearest to the forested areas.
(No offense intended, I am an NTU alumni).
What I do not really like is that NTU do not have dedicated halls like the RCs in NUS where students stay and participate in enriching activities rather than the general hall activities. Some said the scholars are grouped together in certain halls but I am not sure if it’s true cos I was told hall allocations are random.
