    • RE: National serviceman needs maid to carry his backpack

      To each and everyone

It has been a real pleasure to learn and share with parents here on education and other matters for almost seven months.

As with all material things, there must be an end. On this occassion, i would like to conclude my journey with KiasuParents.com with this final posting. Some here may be happy to see this notice.

Wishing all parents here with joys in bringing up their loved ones.

Defence accounts for the highest percentage of our expenditure ahead of education which is ranked no.2. Obviously, the reasons are self-explanatory.

Some may disregard NS as the most important contribution a man can render to his nation for reasons best known to themselves. To me, national service is not labelled ‘national’ for no reason. There’s just no higher calling than to serve NS, nothing can change my view on this point.

My ds will be called for enlistment next year after he finishes his jc education. He has recently indicated his ambition to vie for a PSC scholarship with SAF as his ultimate choice. Personally, i take pride in his ambition and am thankful for it. These are some of the reasons why i view SAF as a sacred instituition and not as just another instituition.

Daddy D, your suggestion makes me laugh. FYI, i am just an ordinary woman well-informed in education and financial matters. You are long enough here to observe it.

Markfch, you and me hold different view points with regard to defence matters.

aiyo, this one nothing la...i share another interesting one :-

a young officer cried when he was scolded by a senior officer for making mistakes. this senior officer is my friend and according to him, many young officers are like that too...

huh? cried?? if he sees a bomb flying towards him n he stands there and cry how?? wow lau, he's a soldier lei, like that how to protect the country??

I feel especially sad on the posting from jessicawongcs.

SAF is a sacred instituition which is extremely vital for the survival of our nation. All servicemen/women whether regulars, NS or NSF are on standby 24/7 and must be prepared to lay their lifes in service of our nation as enstrined in our constituition. Every service personnel must take an oath pledging allegiance to our nation.

To take the opportunity to coerce others in making fun of SAF personnel in a pubic forum like here is rather unbecoming of a responsible citizen/PR/FT. Even if you do not appreciate the contributions from our servicemen/women, on this occassion, i have to educate you that is because of a strong SAF that we can have peace and security to bring up the next generation, our careers, homes and lifestyles. Without a reliable SAF, there's completely no future for Singapore.

There's a limit to jokes and i see as breaching of ethics by taking portshots of service personnel in a sacred instituition in this instance.

NS is also a transformation process to develop our boys into men. Whatever that is taking place, our boys will be strengthen. We can never fully understand the situation unless we are partakers ourselves.

I always explain to our foreign talents the contributions of our boys in SAF/SCDF/POLICE without which thats nothing to talk about our careers, home or lifestyles.

WOW !!! Really makes me worry about the quality of my future \"potential\" son-in-law if this is the outcome of present day parenting.

Can have option to choose high educated angmos/other PRS as only their kids need to serve.

Not wise for us to draw any conclusion just on the basis of the photograph provided. Its best to let his superiors investigate and take appropriate action to prevent future recurrence.

I symphatise with the young man in the picture who has lots of explaination to do to account for such behaviour in public.

In the meantime, its not apporpriate to bash him in pubic forum as we do not know the actual circumstances of this incident.

It doesn’t really matter what she thinks.

All i know is that with all her wealth, connections and top education, the end result is mediocre. Give her the opportunity to run a company, organisation or portfolio, it will become smaller or decline.

She doesn’t understand the practice of leadership and the humanities to work with people.

Do not fret on this kind of remark, its not worth your trouble.

Once in a while, our society receives feedback of this kind, it only goes to show that the writer lacks of emotional skills and humanity. Irrespective of how academically inclined that person is, he/she will end up at most a top level professional reporting to anther guy who is less intelligent but with great wisdom.

Normally, you will observe that many far more intelligent people work for the less intelligent.

      No worries.

Was really excited to know that someone has been accepted to PV at SCGS.

We called the school up and they were really tight lipped about which skill sets they need for successful consideration.

Would anyone be kind enough to share which skills (in your opinion as well) set would be given a better chance at PV-ing at SCGS?

Ability to teach chinese is highly desirable.
