One of the things I reminded my daughter when she was applying to universities overseas was that the no. of places in the most popular universities were always vastly oversubscribed. Besides grades (and there would be too many with excellent grades), applicants would be whittled down based on many more subjective factors such as personal essay, CCAs, other test results, other \"interesting/impressive\" personal factors, etc. Not being selected for an interview was not a slap in the face, but to some extent luck of the draw. We warned her not to be fixated on getting into a particular university or course and make a decision based on the offers she received. She was originally more interested in the US, but (to my relief) was rejected by her 2 top choices, so she went to the UK instead. She now says \"no regrets\".
Hi

Can share which Uk uni that your DD been to in uk?

Hi all, I would like to seek your opinion on these 2 schools: Crescent Girls' school and TKGS.
Which is better? CGS in much closer to my house than TKGS. Please describe the teachers, students and environment there. Thank you!

I don't know much about CGS, but speaking from experience, one will definitely enjoy the time spent in TKGS. Most of the students whom I know who went to TKGS, including my sister and me, did not regret their decision. The teachers there are firm thus they manage to instill discipline in TKGS students. With that being said, the teachers in TKGS are kind-hearted and not too fierce, hence most of the students are able to maintain good relations with their teachers. The students in TKGS not only work hard and play hard, but they also share a strong bond among themselves with the TKGS school spirit being extremely strong. In terms of physical environment, TKGS is currently at a fairly new campus, with facilities such as an indoor sports hall, a gym, an art gallery, an open field, a garden with a pond, and many other cool amenities.
Hope this helped you and if you need any more info about TKGS, feel free to ask me. 😄

Yes..my DD said she has no regret going to TKGS. She still at times mentioning abt how she enjoyed her school days even though she has graduated since 2 years ago.

hi parents,
Good to know that there is an active thread for CGSS

Can I check if you are planning to get a new laptop for your girl and if this is needed in the Cedar curriculum?

I am thinking of getting one for my girl, still considering what is the most suitable brand and model

I got MacBook Air for my girl since she was in P6. She is sec 3 this year. It's very good laptop. You can consider.
Recommendation from school.

Fully agreed. MacAir is reliable and light. My girl used it since Sec1 till JC. No issue.

Hi
just curious, are there cases of students transferring into cedar IP in during mid year Sec 3 ? And if they have managed to transfer, is there a smooth integration into the sch thereafter?
Shouldn’t be a problem as far as I know.

Usually if there is no reply by this time, it probably means not successful. DC is in round 2 already.
If you are talking about govt scholarships under PSC Office then it’s still ongoing. DD got invited for interview for MFA recently only.

Attended NUS' \"Conversation with the Dean\" yesterday on Engineering at Tangs Marriot Hotel.

It was very very crowded.

The most discussed was the new E-Scholar Engineering Programme, it's flagship 4-year engineering programme that comprises an accelerated 3-year Bachelor Degree plus 1-year Master Degree.

This replaces it's previous double-degree Global Engineering Programme.

Singapore students who are offered the course will be offered a scholarship automatically and the scholarship is equivalent to NUS' most prestigious Global Merit Scholarship.

Students who are called up for interview must have stellar academic results. Critically they must pass the interview as well.

The E-Scholar programme only takes in about 60 undergraduates each year and will be given close mentor support specially chosen by the Dean.

They will be given the choice to stay in their newest Residential Collage RC-4 or the USP, which focuses on different academic studies.
Is your DS offered a place.? Any string attached if the scholarship is accepted?
May I know whether when the uni offered you the scholarship, it does not mean it offers the degree programme you have indicated as your first choice on application?

it will state the course that the scholarship award to.
Maybe different for others as my dd only apply the one and only one course in that uni.

It didn't state the course when they offer him the Merit Scholarship. It only said if they are shortlisted for the Global Merit Scholarship, they will get another email inviting them for an interview.

If don't hear from them, then he will just receive the Merit Scholarship.

Anyway, my DS just received another confirmation that he has been offered the E-Scholar Engineering course.

But will this scholarship replace the Merit Scholarship since this is a 4-year+ course leading to a Master degree while the Merit Scholarship only covers 3 years of undergraduate studies?
Congrats to your son’s stella achievement!
