Not all schools in Sengkang will have open houses. I have checked with CHIJ St Joseph’s Convent and they are not planning for an open house.

    • RE: Comparing Chinese Enrichment (Primary/Preschool)

My daughter attended Tien Hsia for more than 6 mths in K1 class. Yet, she can hardly speak a word of chinese. During the performance at the end of each semester, she could not recite the poems like what other kids do. She also cannot recognise the chinese characters on flash cards. Quite difficult words like crab, giraffe in chinese. I am pulling her out and going for Berries instead. I think at least for someone like her who grows up in an English speaking environment, it is more important to instill fun in learning at early stages.

      Hi All,

Berries has a super long queue for nursery level. i checked all west and central branches.

waiting list as long as 60 people in front. So, i need to consider Tien hsie, hua and beijing language school.

Iam looking for one that can cultivate interest for my son and build up his vocab and also confidence level when reading.

Some told me Tien hsia is too stressful for nursery level. With all the spelling and hanyu pinying?? for nursery level?

Any comment on these 3 language centres?and particularly tien hsia orchard centre,is the teacher good??

      Thanks all .
      stary

      Hi,
My children attend the class in Tien Hsia. I am not quite sure in which area they refer as stressful, maybe the end semester got performance in front of the parents. I believed that this is quite good as it instill the children to learn to face the crowd.

As for spelling and hanyupinying, it is only started in K1/K2 but still quite minimum. For K1, they only have around 1 spelling per semester while K2 around 2 spelling semester and hanyupinying also not so rigorous.

That's right. I'm also quite surprised that timetable has changed at this point in time, after a month in school. And it took effect today! Imagine they wear uniform and do PE....
Yup...did anyone ask what's the reason for the sudden change in timetable? They have 1 more PE lesson per week now.

      Hi Parents,

Would like to check if anyone else had trouble logging into this http://www.ezhishi.net website? My gal from P1 came home and said her chinese teacher asked her to complete her homework in the website but we can't get in.

Hi yym, which class is your girl? I asked my son but he said no online homework instruction from teacher. He's in 1H.

My daughter is also from class 1H. Today's homework is topical exercise Maths page 15-18.

My girl is in class 1H. She said she was asked to do English, Chinese and Mathematics.

For English, she said it was a simple exercise, circling pictures that start with a particular alphabet like "A".
For Chinese, it was more a writing exercise.
      For Mathematics, addition and subtraction.

      Hi jasonirene,

Thanks for the information, I have not heard of Yuquan…so it is better than Berries for learning of Chinese Characters?

      Where is Yu Quan at?[/quote]

Yuquan has quite a number of branches, with some at those RCs at the HDB void decks. I have only attended 1 trial lesson in Berries for my 4-year old in Nursery -more fun element.

As for Yuquan which I enrolled my 6-year K2 girl, a lot of practising on the chinese characters (like writing a character 70 times each lesson!). I cannot even get my girl to write 5 times at home, yet the teacher can get her to write 70 times. Anyway, she remembers the characters eventually and she likes the teacher too.
