Good sign that your daughter cry after the CA.

Looks like she is a good student.
Those who did badly and still bo-chap will certainly liao!

In any case, a friend passed me a book with an interesting title.
Maths Without Tears by Fabian Ng.
It contains full papers with full solutions.
Very good support for weak students.

I like the following words in Fabian’s Foreword, which is really reassuring.

You have in your hands a book which will help you to excel in the PSLE.
I trust that this book will be a great blessing to many pupils.
It will certainly bring much joy, meaning and satisfaction in the learning of mathematics for those who cherish it.

    • RE: is it possible to teach p4 math ourselves?

I think P4 Maths is still quite manageable.

However, things can get a bit crazy in P5.
      Sort of like triple jump.
The questions get so much harder.
The marks of children dipped drastically in P5.
      Kind of discouraging!

      🕺

      Don't worry Cheryl.
Just cast those frightening questions that are senseless aside.
Some school papers are way overboard.
There are questions can only be solved with simultaneous equation.
(Students learn that only in sec 2).

There are others that are plain tedious and so difficult that the even after the teacher in the school tried hard to explain to the class, most of the children in the class still ended up in wonderland.

I believe the PSLE examination board is not too insane!
Well, at least I hope so.

      Have a good day ahead

      😆

I agree. Fundamental foundations must be established before we teach them heuristic thinking skills.
The problem is heuristic thinking skills are often not taught well in school.
They talk about teach less learn more.
But its actually teach little test more.
Unless we equip our students to think and with the requisite skills.
Many students will be discouraged with learning of mathematics!

      Not to worry Janet.

Next year truly will be better.
Unlike the PSLE which can be maddening, the secondary mathemathematics has very clear scope and boundaries.
Children will start afresh with familiar topics such as whole numbers.
So its a good new start to reestablish foundations.

Meanwhile for your P6 child, look out for good books by Fabian Ng such as Math without tears or Essential Review in PSLE.
Fabian periodically conduct PSLE workshop too.
Quite unique kind. No gimmics no pompous just substance.
Very thorough and equip children with very effective thinking skills.
However, Fabian seems not to be very active these while.

      All the best

      Quite True.

Its good to initiate our children early to good effective problem solving skills and good thinking strategies.
Else they will be never be ready for those killer questions that appear in the papers!
