Algebra. heard from a mom that her child was taught in school by a relief teacher. She used it in Psle & passed with flying colors.

Can anyone cfm whether can use algebra? My kid teacher say cannot but like macaron I kind of agree that algebra is more full proof for pale and reduce assumptions and time wasted. Any thoughts on this?

    • RE: Mindstretcher - Discussion

      JJ2:
      Hi SuperDadandMum,

      SuperDadandMum:

Actually, it all depends on what you are looking for. For Science, I find Mind Stretcher notes useful for revision. In fact, I pass my daughter's Science notes to my nephew and they find it very useful for revision and as guides and extra materials for teaching at home.

Recently they even have Hands-On Experiments for Mathematics, similar to what is being done in schools. My boy came back to say he enjoys the lessons and learn something different from the teachers today.

      Thanks for your feedback.

Actually I feel that the notes are only useful when the teacher knows how to use them by going through and breaking down the concepts and explaining in a way that children understand. I didn't send my girl for 2 hours tuition a week just to collect their notes to study at home. I could have gone through using notes from assessment books, which are equally useful. Not to mention some of the questions in the MS practice papers are from assessment books too.

How well the children understands the lessons can be seen from the way they answer the practice papers. Simple logic, if a child is failing the papers, it means that he or she didn't learn well from the lesson. The teacher would have to revisit the topics and clarify any questions which the children might have instead of just moving on to the next topic.

When I ask the teacher how my girl is coping, she only replies \"ok..ok..\". Ermm.. if she's coping ok, she wouldn't be scoring 10/40 for one of the practice papers. Sigh. Quite disappointed with the teacher for her lack of concern for the children. Sigh.

Maybe just have to find the right centre or teacher. Anyone has good centre or teacher to recommend for primary Science in the West area?

      Thanks!!

Yes you are spot on for MS \"ok ok\" type answer. Just withdraw my younger Son from there. Fail for both Maths and Science and from Clementi 321 campus.

    • RE: How to improve Chinese Composition?

      ESWN:
Thanks folks for the sharing! Yup i also heard PRC students' text books on assay compositions are very comprehensive and as thick as novels!! That's why they can master the language so well and compose impressive paragraphs I think..

BlueCandy, can u let me know where i can buy those text books u mentioned above? Hope they will be helpful to my kids too..

That is really hard work. Yes my 2 sons attended Jiang tuition at fortune centre and they were using Textbooks from China. Both scored above average for the subject.

      Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Yes, I'm referring to HCJC which they call it HCI (College).

Does my daughter have a chance like this? I told her the same thing, no harm giving it a try. Given her status (neighbourhood sch student), a teachers' recommendation is a bonus to her, however, she is afraid that the teacher might laughed behind her back saying that she is just an average student and that even the top student of the sch can't even get into HCI and she, an average student want to get in blah blah blah...

I'm not sure if HCI (College) will look down on students from neighbourhood college because I find my daughter achievements rather acceptable compared to the top students in her sch. I think that... the only problem lies in her academic only... she has leadership and sporting talent...

Well, let's just say, I shall encourage her to try her luck... though chances are really slim... 0.00001% ....

      Thanks guys.
Go for it. If the teacher laughs about her aspirations, something is really wrong for an educator to do that.

Live for self not others in this context. Try.
