Singaporeans and Hongkies are very practical people so they don't see anything in practical musicianship. Most important thing, get certs, and get them fast.

Very true! Every year when it comes to theory exams I just send my kid for a 5 day crash course workshop, so much more cost and time efficient rather than sending them for a whole year of classes. And it's funny because they end up doing better since they don't start to hate it because of the drag and bore.

eh what's this magic course, can share share or not 😄 How much for the 5 days?
depends on the grade... eg. grade one is $450 for the 5 days, 20 hours. that means 1 hour is 22$, usually theory is twice the price for one hour and takes a whole year of lessons. you can check the details here http://www.musicacademics.sg/accelerated-music-theory-workshop/ this one is for the upcoming workshop

DD is in CO, playing pipa. A lot of her seniors are taking exams, was wondering if I should get her to take as well, don't know if will be too stressful? After all I just want her to enjoy herself in the cca...

      Hi!
As a matter of fact, taking exams could actually enrich her CCA experience and allow her to enjoy it even more! By taking lessons, your daughter will be able to refine her technical abilities and get a competitive edge over her peers in the orchestra! Taking exams will allow her to have a system that she can follow and have something to work towards! All in all, she will definitely feel more accomplished and confident of her skills.

Hi, may I know if your teachers are local or from china? Currently looking for an erhu teacher who can speak english because my kid's chinese is not too good and cannot understand most of what the teacher is saying!

    • RE: Need some interview tips

One thing I’ve learnt is to ask questions, at the end of the interview as if you’re already accepted, for example in IT, ‘What software will I be working with?’, shows genuine interest and confidence in your own skills

    • RE: Maris Stella Kindergarten

It’s definitely a more holistic experience, in short, good for well off parents or those who aren’t too concerned with academics! If your child thrives in that sort of environment they will do very well there.

      Hello WL

Sorry I am not a parent and can't provide much in the way of support, but I'd like to wish your child the very best in working up to express stream. A long time ago, I was in the N(A) stream, but I never did get promoted to Express. The N(A) classroom can be very discouraging for a motivated student, so do consider looking out for avenues where you can place your child with like-minded/motivated students.

      All the best!

      TheWriter
Quite true, you really have to be there for your child constantly to remind him or her of her ultimate goal, don't ever let your child lose hope if that is truly what he or she wants. The culture of NA can be quite seducing, so constant communication with your child is very important.
