RE: [Tampines] Primary Schools
Hi, I am Susan's friend. The one she mentioned in her post...
My girl is at Tampines North Primary Sch P1. Like all of you, I was having headache in deciding which School to enrol her last year.
I used to prefer Gongshan to Tampines North for many personal reasons. As, GS is jus two to three blocks away from my place, I assumed that there should not be any problem enrolling my girl into the School. I remembered I kept telling my girl how good the School is, hoping she would fall in love with her \"School-to-be\".
However, we were not balloted for a place at GS. The next choices available were Tampines Primary, ChongZheng, Yumin and Tampines North Primary. Since Tampines North is the next nearest to my place, to my dismay, we proceeded to Tampines North. The moment I stepped into the place, my impression of the School changed. The environment is very spacious and friendly with many attractive and most importantly non threatening corners for students.
Tampines North has got PAL program for the P1 and P2. The P1 and 2 are in the afternoon session. They have to be in School half an hour earlier 4 days a week in order to execute the program (under the syllabus). Next year, the School will be singled session.
My girl is very pleased with her School. She loves and is proud to be student of Tampines North Pri Sch. I would say that my girl has got rather strong foundation academically. I am sure she would have no problem in keeping up with the syllabus should she got in to GS. Currently in Tampines North, she is taking \"in depth\" syllabus of MT. As for those weaker students, there are few special programs for them to catch up with the syllabus.
I have learnt that getting into a suitable School with pleasant environment to keep a child's interest in learnng is so much more important than solely looking into whether the School can produce how many PSLE scholars.
Many friends of mine suggested me to put my girl in GS' waiting list. But my girl said she doesn't want to. She even made this comment,\" mummy, Tampines North is such a nice School. Why do we need to go to GS?\"

RE: [Tampines] Primary Schools
ya thx for the updates on vacancies...
so sad that my girl did not kena in yesterday gongshan ballot.
now considering tampines north, tampines pri and yumin as they r within 1km from my place...
In fact, Tampines North is the nearest to my place, only 280m. But i feel it very stranger... and the cca like quite limited... On the other hand, yumin and tamp pri are around 800 to 900m away thus need to arrange transport. but in days when my gal has remedial or cca then i need to bring her myself. i have another two young boys who will be 5 yrs old and 1 yr old next yr. thus, i need to drag all of them to fetch her... cant imagine during rainy days...
i really dun wan to miss the most suitable and good sch for my children...
can parents pls tell me more about these three schools? if you are me and are to choose, which sch would you pick and why?
thx
