simkhoo,

Your girl only joined the Singapore school in mid Sec 2, and she coped pretty well. Do you think if a IP student goes on LoA at end of Sec 1 (means already in the same school in Sec 1), and re-joins mid Sec 3, do you think the student would be able to cope?

If IP student returning, don't they hv to take entry tests to qualify for placement? The usual IP students will be re-assigned in Yr3.

I believe every school has their own guidelines, placement test is for the school to access the strength of the child and place them in the appropriate class/subject combi. My son need not take any placement test as his IGCSE result were outstanding.

Should not be a problem if the child is consistent. My son was on LOA since Sep Sec 1 year, he went back in Aug sec 4 year and is now in year 5, he is doing well in school and so far no issue coping.

    • RE: 2017 Secondary School Selection for 2018

      MeMyselfAndI:
Hello, I’m a fellow P6 student. I got a aggregate of 263+2 and I’m still considering my schools. Does RGS have a caring environment or are they really competitive? What about NYGH? Anyone can share more about these two schools? Thank you in advance.

Congratulations for the good result! My bff's dd got into RGS from RGPS, she did not have any tuitions in her life, getting RGS is purely with her own effort. She enjoys her school life is RGS but she always feels that she is not good enough compared to her peers, hence I believe the competition is there. Sorry can't help you on NYGH.

      Hi,

My son has been accepted into the IB program. Can i check if it is possible for IB students to take the third language offered by MOE? Just wondering if the schedule permits it....

      TIA.
I graduated from SJI IB a year ago, and am currently reading law in uni now; I'll be glad to answer any questions about the course!

Hi Shibboleth, I will like to know if SJI allow students to sit for 4HL and 2 SL? And how do they determine student can take which subject in HL or SL? Thank You.

Hello, I'm a fresh graduate from SJI. I don't know anybody from my school who did 4HLs and 2SLs, so I'm not sure if it's allowed. I wouldn't recommend doing that though, because the workload for the normal 3HLs and 3SLs is already very intensive, considering the amount of work and effort that goes into doing IAs and the EE.

Students are free to choose what subjects they want to do for HLs and SLs, but those wanting to do SL ab initio foreign languages must have taken Higher MT in sec sch, and those wanting to do HL math must take an aptitude test first. The test is only to give the student a rough gauge on whether they'll be able to do well in HL math, you don't need to achieve a certain score to be allowed to do HL math.
Thank you for your reply! This information provided is very helpful.
