Please allow me to clarify a few things.


A mega secondary school under 1 roof is not necessary a new giant campus :-
Many schools have started to go upwards , meaning , less space required but you still get the necessary facilities. Eunoia JC is one good example and a few more schools are under construction under this model.
ITE has 3 campuses, serving 27K students, meaning = 9000 students in a year @ 1 site. Then, we also have St Andrew Village as example.

Why is there a need to have so many secondary schools in different locations (really), some in close proximity ?
It is not resource efficient in a way. Also, it is not about recreating a big RI/HCI/ACI/SJI etc. It is to help bring the focus back, education should remain as education and students should be allowed to rediscover the joy of learning and not to be bogged down by exam drills just so they can score better and to try to get into a school of choice. How many students who reach P6 truly enjoy learning today ? Let’s us take a step back and ask
ourselves this question honestly. Continuous learning is the way forward and we need students to really enjoy learning and see the purpose of learning, by equipping them with the necessary resources.

At moment, with too many schools in different locations, resources are spread too thin.
Students may not get a chance to learn what they wish to learn, eg some schools offer robotics,
but it may not be available in the school that a student is posted to under current system.
Some schools do not offer some CCA due to lack of demand or lack of facilities and at times,
students may have to go over another sec schools for those CCA.

With a mega cluster secondary school, the purpose pool resources, to allow students to have a seamless progression near their place of residence. After PSLE, students who preferred a school near home, they can head straight to the nearest cluster secondary school and you know you have a school with good facilities, learning options that you are looking for.

hello fellow parents.

i just wish to seek some views of an idea. Some parents told me not to waste my effort, some educators i spoke to said the ideas sound great if it can be pushed through. I have been advocating this idea for many years, small steps and i spoke to some officers from MOE recently about it , though have not heard back but i am still trying.

Personally, i feel PSLE not be used as a convenient tool to sort students into secondary schools, given that it has to be done during the short 1-2 weeks Dec holidays window period. that is the most efficient way for now. Students should not be subjected to balloting and education system should not be like that.

We have 136 secondary schools. Schools are already split into 7 clusters (North , south, East , West ) , Ave 5 (Range 4-6) secondary schools in each cluster. What if we group several secondary schools and house them under 1 roof ?

meaning

Ave new enrolment in each secondary : 300 per year

What if we group 5 Sec into a big school ?
No of students = 1500 per year
No of sec = 22 Mega Cluster Sec Schools


4 Years = 6000 students in a year @ 1 location.

There are many benefits, esp when it comes to availability of resources / facilities etc under 1 roof, more subject options for students, opportunities for teachers to progress, pedagogy research to bring our education system to next height.

Of course, we are not asking every secondary school to merge to form a mega cluster secondary schools due for various valid reasons. Logistic can always be worked out easily.

I wish to seek some views from more parents as every view helps to refine the idea in some ways.

To the kids, many felt too wasteful to make 20 ribbons out of 10 rolls when material need only 9. Unfortunately our local Edu system cannot accept critical thinking that either they stitch up balance or redesign ribbon to minimize wastage. No businessman will do such thing though.

Answer to ribbon question should be 10 rolls not 9. Each roll can make only 2 ribbons,

Hi

i am quite sure the answer should be Flask K. But the answer given by the supplier was Flask L, as it has wider opening.

I understand that the supplier can make mistake too but maybe there is some concept that i am not sure myself.

for some second advice please.
