During my gal’s time in p1 (2009), they’re only allowed PE attire on PE days. During exam periods, all were told to be in uniform. But when my boy joined, the school became more relax and no longer enforce the same rules.

Bye, PHP… I still have one more boy joining PHPPS in 2017 so I’ve to stay around till 2022!!

For those interested to know, kids can wear PE attire everyday if they wish all the way till before PSLE. Mine only wears PE and uniform only for prize giving or special occasions. I guess if school is not changing their rules on this, then can maintain one set of uniform till p6.

Also, for those mummies who have a bit of spare time, school library need helpers. Mainly is to help librarian scan books, shelving, label books, etc… The hours spend not counted for PV so only those who purely wants to spend their free time doing something for the school need apply.

Please pm me if interested. I’ll pass the librarian’s number to you. Note that if you ask the GO, they r likely to say help not required!!

Is there a better way to teach P2 fraction?

my gal can't comprehend the greatest/smallest fraction and frustrated both of us each time I go through with her
      Experienced mommies can share?

Ask your child if she would like to share her favourite cake with more or less friends. So, the less friends she shares the cake with, the bigger the piece of cake she can eat. I hope this helps.

I made play dough cakes and get my kids to imagine sharing with their friends. Can do addition and subtraction of fractions with them (start with same denominator before try with different denominators). Can teach equivalent fractions too.
      Cheaper than buying real cakes!

Will she be interested to work for a family with 4 kids and 2 elderly? Need to get up 5am on weekdays as activities start at 5.30am. Lots of cooking. Can rest after washing up post dinner, usually around 9pm. Can eat before the family since most of them won’t be back early.

If she’s interested, please pm me.

I don't think your child will become dysfunctional in such an environment because he will still likely get to mix with other races/gender outside school, eg at enrichment classes, neighbourhood playgrd etc. But I think the child will miss out quite a fair bit studying in a more diversified environment. It's interesting mixing and studying with friends of other races. You can't duplicate that experience/environment in the former.

      Agree with u, zeemimi.

      Also, it depends on whether:
      1) u r taking certain combis (C Lit or E Lit...)
      2) u attend certain religious services on weekends that allow u to mingle w youths of other race
      3) u eventually go to the West for your college studies
      4) u do community/grassroots services that expose u to other races/religions/social classes
      5) u work in selected sectors
      6) ur vocation in army
      7) (during our era) ur JC is more 'angmoh pai' or not.

Both my DH and I were HCLs, but today DH has no friends from other races. He is quintessentially chinois, a walking Chinaman. In contrast, I've lots of BFFs of other races, nationalities & religions.

I prefer non SAP school for the friends from other backgrounds. My DSs still in SAP school so I was glad when they made many Indian/Eurasian friends in their out of school activities. Just missing Malay friends.... 🤷

Have you ever asked yourself -
Suppose now your dd finished her IB at ACSI, going to choose the facilty of study, at university

Which faculty of study are suitable or welcome those armed with IB, or which faculty tend to favor A level candidates, over IB candidates ?

If you feel more secure for your dd to have A level, then settle for Nanyang CO.
But having spent 6 years in MGS primary, when she first initially enter NYGH, she may not get used to the school culture. But given time, one will be able to adapt, overcome.
6 years primary school in MGS switch over to NY, still can adapt to NY culture.
ACS culture and Hwa Chong school culture, very different

Some of my friends' dd spent 10 years in MGS, from primary to Sec, affliated, all the way.
After O level, got into Hwa Chong.
She got culture shock, in Hwa Chong Junior College, first year.
Can't adapt at all, in the end transferred to another JC to study.
Well, she is not offered IB @ MGS so the only difference is whether she wants to take the 'o' level or not.... I like MGS as she gets exposures to other races, cultures and meet talents from other fields, not just academic. So I'm very happy to have transferred her there from a SAP school nearby. I'll be glad to just leave her in MGS but now faced with NY CO, ......

Yes, during interview, a typical question is did you apply to any other school?

I quizzed my dd this question a few days before the interview. Then we went thru the strength of the 2 schools and how to phrase the answer for each school (not word for word practice lah, just pointed out what each school will like to hear to her and how she can support her statement with previous experience)… I think this is the most critical part of the interview, just like any job interview…

Hi, all the best for the psle!!

      *******************************
My dd received CO for both NYGH & MGS. Sports DSA (swim).

A bit of history to share w future DSAer…
She is in MGS. So to continue in MGSS, need 220 for psle. Since she’s also swimmer for the school, teachers encouraged her to DSA sports so that she can stay as long as she gets 200 for psle. I told her not to cos she’s wasting time only but eventually gave in when she said she wanted to try for the IB program. The DSA-sports is a subset of the submission for DSA-IB.

For those interested to DSA-sports, it’s true coaches already identify talents prior to the DSA exercise. They will be at inter school meets, training centers, clubs to check out the kids. They even ask their current kids to recommend those p6ers they think are good. RGS issued invitation cards to Tea for all 1st/2nd placing gals during the inter school swim meet in April. NY coach went to swim clubs to ask about p6 gals that have good potential n interested in NY before sending out invitation to tea. Dd was invited this way.

Before DSA exercise, I asked dd if NY offer her a CO, will she take it? her answer is ‘no’. Then why DSA? Her reply is to see how she compares to other swimmers who will be applying. Now she refuses to let me inform NY that she’s going to decline the CO cos she has a low chance she will change her mind.

I prefer NY but worry if the school will stand in her way to swimming ‘glory’. I like MGS but worry the school doesn’t stretch her enough academically.
