There is no streaming from p1 to p4. P4 going to p5 is the determining streaming year. Streaming is based on academic. The school also set aside a class for students who are on school sport team.

Thanks! so by saying the streaming is based on academic, they look at all the past academic record? or just the year end result for P4? Thanks.

P4 overall results only.
There is no more sport class.

A class of 40 pupils helped to carry bundles of old newspapers in an event organised to collect funds for the old folks. Each boy carried 3 stacks of newspapers and each girl carried 2 stacks. Altogether, the boys carried 30 more stacks than the girls. What is the ratio of the number of boys to the number of girls in the class?

Any one can help using supposition method?

Suppose all 40 pupils are boys.
40 x 3 = 120 (stacks)
120 - 30 = 90 (stacks carried by girls)
3 + 2 = 5 (Every increase in boys by 1 will lead to an increase of 3 stacks. Similarly, every decrease in girl by 1 will lead to a decrease of 2 stacks. Every increase of 3 stacks by boys and every decrease of 2 stacks by girls will lead to a difference of 5.)
No. of girls ------- 90/5 = 18
No of boys ------- 40 - 18 = 22
or
Suppose all 40 pupils are girls.
40 x 2 = 80 (stacks)
80 + 30 = 110 (stacks carried by boys)
3 + 2 = 5 (Every increase in boys by 1 will lead to an increase of 3 stacks. Similarly, every decrease in girl by 1 will lead to a decrease of 2 stacks. Every increase of 3 stacks by boys and every decrease of 2 stacks by girls will lead to a difference of 5.)
No. of boys ------- 110/5 = 22
No. of girls ------- 40 - 22 = 18

Boys : Girls
22 : 18
11 : 9

Ans : 11 : 9.
