Since VS is starting IP for 2012 intake, would the COP be much higher than the COP for O Level? COP for O level in 2011 and 2010 was 246 and 245 respectively. Though difficult to estimate, would the COP for IP be at least 260?

think it is quite difficult to estimate....VS has always been a popular school (for the masses)...the COP was not high in previous years becos it did not offer IP...now with IP, the COP for VS - O Level likely to go up too as vacancies are taken up by those in VS - IP.

VS-IP COP was 255 last year for 80 places. Next year, they will double the number of places to 160. I would assume COP will be lower but this year, i think there are almost 3,000 more students who took the PSLE. Any thoughts about this? My son's PSLE score is 255..

We tried the bus to SJI last Saturday (bus 48) and it took around 1 hr (23 stops) from our place. I was told that this will actually take longer due to the heavy traffic in the area when kids from the different schools in the Bukit Timah area are dropped off. Then the travel to the new holding site in Bishan takes longer. My son (and myself) really want to go to SJI but with the time wasted on travel everyday (2 hrs both ways), I think VS will be more suited for him and practical as well (cheaper school fees).


Anyway, with his score of 255, we've put VS-IP as 1st choice and SJI-IP as 2nd choice. Last year's COP for VS-IP was 255 but VS is increasing the number of places from 80 to 160. If he can't make it, we'll be happy with SJI-IP. The rest of the choices are the O-level program of both schools as well as TJC and TKSS (both in the east).

He is not happy with this (VS over SJI) but is choosing the school based on convenience the right way?

U may have tried the bus 48 on a weekend which is slower as it passes through Rochor area. Perhaps can reconsider and make the one amendment to the choices since both yourself and your son also wants to go to SJI.

You can also consider taking bus 966 from Parkway / Still Road that will reach PIE/Jalan Toa Payoh/CJC quite fast as it uses the highway, thereafter its just one more bus stop to SJI.

You mean during weekdays bus 48 will not go thru the Rochor area? What is the route then? For the other option you mentioned, he still needs to go to PP to catch bus 966 which means total of 3 buses to take to go to SJI. Is there a school bus (privately operated) that goes to SJI?

Thought of revisiting this topic for the sec school posting exercise, especially as we'll be moving to Bedok/Upper East Coast area next year so SJI will be farther from our current place.

The IB diploma in SJI vs the Cambridge A-Level examinations in VJC, which one is your son more inclined towards? This should be another major aspect to consider.

To be frank he's more inclined on the school (SJI), rather than the IP itself. Guess either IB diploma or the A-level will work for him since he also applied on the DSA-IP for both schools. He didn't make it out of the last rounds but there may be a chance thru the PSLE route.

I think its impt to ask the boy which he prefers too, since his SA1 results are good, why dun you consider applying for DSA(Academic) into SJI too ?

There are a couple of buses like 966 and 5 which uses PIE from Jalan Toa Payoh that goes to Jalan Eunos in 10 mins. Not sure if that helps.

One last question: Will the child still need to also take foreign language (FL) courses at the MOE language center over the course of his/her secondary education? I heard of cases with full MT exemption and those exempted but need to take FL in lieu of MT.

My daughter has lived overseas most of her Pr school years so she was exempted from MT. She still got a T-score from the 3 PSLE papers she took but I don't know how they arrive at it. With that score, the rest of the posting is exactly the same as any other student and she got into an IP school.

Therefore, we're also looking at VS as an alternative. He got A's in his SA1 results so we think he will be able to manage the COP of both schools (on a side note - should we also apply him at both school's IP?).
