Hello NYmumy! Welcome to GY. I know how you feel, I have been waiting to go back to Bishan new campus too. Very tiring fetching boy to school every day...some more to Ang Mo Kio.
I've been watching the building 'grow', my hubby laughs at me all the time, says my neck also growing longer like girraffe.

RE: Guangyang Primary
Oh dear…from what I know, when the previous P left, GY had to move out to Ang Mo Kio for Prime. Hence, the school could not attract students. But GY did not go downhill! In 1 year, GY PSLE results went up. It has never improved so much before. It became some schools with Good Progress award. If you have talked to the P, she is definitely not useless!

RE: [Bishan] Primary Schools
seaangel, not to worry. MOE posted memo that GY will operate in Bishan in 2012. Heard from the teachers that GY is planning to move out end Nov. Sure the building will be ready. I can see the workers working day n night now, guess must be rushing. This occurred only recently.

Wish you all the best. I dont think there's any problem with you joining GY. we'll know tmr. -
RE: Guangyang Primary
Hi
From what I hear from the teachers and parents, the new P is good. Amethyst11, your info does not seem correct, very few teachers have left the school. She cares for the pupils and even personally coaches some P6 pupils. Last year's results went up cos she motivates the pupils to do well and she works with the teachers for the pupils. Last year's P6 parents gave her thumbs up and raved about her.
I think the school is affected by ATS and CH which are in the vicinity. Most people want branded schools, that's why. But I think the family also matters a great deal. If the child is in a branded school with no home support, I doubt the child can perform. Must also look at the general cohort's performance, not just 1 top pupil.
BTW, the P was from Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary, SAP school from Bukit Timah. She knows her stuff and has put in new things esp for the P1 and P2s. Curriculum quite solid. I like.
As a parent, I think I am comfortable with the P, have fedback stuff to her and she takes actions immediately. Her children top priority, she says. :boogie: -
RE: [Bishan] Primary Schools
Actually mummyo, your sister’s info seems correct. At the tuition place (TP), I hear ATS parents commenting about the standard dropping and the teachers not quite teaching the pupils. But I guess every school has some teachers like that. We just have to help our children. No choice lar!

RE: [Bishan] Primary Schools
Hi Chooz
From wat I noe, usually schools look at child's results n CCAs if any. Very often P1 to P3 no vacancies. Only at P4 there are some vacancies esp in schools that do not offer GEP. Perhaps you could try at end P3 to transfer your child out then. However, at that time, you have to manage your child' emotions and feelings when he moves out of 1 comfort zone to another. That takes time and lots of motivation from the family.

Hi Chooz,
felt sad for u, but not to worry, u can join me at Gy.
Frankly, Gy pupils better behaved than AMK. I can see cos they are next to each other now. Gy discipline also quite good, strict with behaviour. Teachers quite proactive and my son adores his teachers, esp his Chinese teacher. Has a lot of energy for the kids. I heard from my friends that the results improved by a lot last year, all above national average and the school focuses on the academics too. I think my son enjoys the school but I must say that the family plays an important role too. The P believes in working with the parents and she is quite on. -
RE: [Bishan] Primary Schools
So how did you find Guangyang Primary? Personally since my son is there, I find the teachers very warm and friendly. My son loves going to school and is happy. I hope you will like the school too. The new building is on the way up and looking grand. Heard there will be lots of facilities too.

RE: P1 Punishment
I seriously do not agree with the teacher's method of \"punishing\" the boy. It's like tit for tat. Really, schools should not condone such modes of \"punishment\". If my boy did something wrong, I'd like the teacher to inform me. Whatever the teacher has done, I hope he/she has managed the class well. Otherwise, there will be lots of chaos in time to come. :siao:

RE: Interesting places of interest/Outings with kids!
Try the Hortpark. There’s learning, lots of walking and you can connect with nature too. My son loves it there.
