slmkhoo:Ok, thanks for the advice, really appreciate it. I dun think he is doing much active work in school, as most of the work are desk bound. I am presuming he lacks interest in the subject. He is fine in group work, show and tell , stuff like that. Maybe he just dun like to write. Need to inculcate the importance of paying attention in class. Teachers were saying pri 1 still acceptable. When reach pri 2 or 3 when the workload is heavier, he might not be able to cope, and that is when all the problems will come. I just hope he will grow out of it.My daughter has been diagnosed with Asperger's, which explains her inattentiveness. She has other issues with working memory, processing speed, auditory processing, physical coordination etc. I think your son probably is the active, kinesthetic type, and may learn better through activity rather than seat work. Since he's still quite young, he probably just needs more time to mature and learn more self-control. Some of these things can't be rushed. Getting him to sleep more may be a good idea. I think 10hrs sleep per night may be better since he's active.joyrob:Yup, we did all we could at home, devise a timetable for him to follow, reminders, make him keep track of time. But he is a very lacklustre type. He can be taking his own sweet time although he knows that he do not have enough time. He never felt any urgency to do anything.
For him, he is good at vocal stuff, and things that are not desk bound, and requires active participation, and group work. Teachers comment that he excel is these, as well as in sports. I asked him, he told me that he no interest in the chinese handwriting, and the English passage is too long and tedious for him to do. He is also very forgetful and can forgrt about his homework to do at home. We need to make him check his bag everyday to tske responsiibility. We trying our best to make Chinese learning fun for him too.
He slept at 9pm and wake up at 6.30 in morning. We are trying to make him sleep at 8.30pm to see if is better. Every morning he will wake up, cranky, saying he is tired. But how can he still be tired after sleeping for 9 hrs ? When he is back home in afternoon, he not tired at all.
Can elaborate what learning difficulty your daughter is having ? From comments from the teachers, they said that he is a bright boy, who has no problems in his work. Is just that he choose not to do it.

Just keep making him focus at home, and hopefully the habit will build up and he will eventually apply it in school. My older daughter was like that, and we also felt that we couldn't expect a teacher to watch her so closely when there were so many other students to teach. We just made sure that all the work she didn't do in school was done at home under our supervision, and we made it very clear to her that if she had too much to do at home, she would have less leisure time. It took a long time, but by P3, she was managing to do most of her schoolwork in school instead of having to do it at home. She was eventually diagnosed with a learning difficulty, but your son might just need a bit more time to learn how to be attentive.joyrob:
The teacher made him sit in front, alone, beside teacher, but limited success. He continues to dream too, despite constant reminders.
At home, we will monitor him closely, and he knows he is always being watched. In school, is not fair for the teachers to monitor him that close, so he tends to drift easily.
When we asked him on what he is thinking of, he would reply he dunno, or give us the blank look.
I dun think the work is easy. Manageable it is. He definitely has the ability to do it. It could be he has no interest. He has no difficulty in learning, eye sight check, is ok. Apart from this, I am not sure what to check for.
We gave him the cod liver oil.

care to share what sorts of discipline at home that prompt him to do what he will not do in class?joyrob:
My pri 1 boy has the same problem of dreaming in class too. The teachers would complain to us that he is often in his own world, not doing his work, and even not afraid of scoldings or punishment in class. And he will the only one not handing up the work , or sometimes totally blank pages. Is like a 'bochap' attitude, at pri 1 !!!
If he is pressured, like staying back , he will quickly do it. So is not a ability problem. At home he is not that bad, as he know the discipline at home. In school, he know the teachers cannot do anything to him, so he is not scared and couldnt care less.
We as parents are really at a loss of what to do. Any advise would be good. We have also seek the student counsellor help in observing him. Maybe he is lacking in focusing of the brainpower.
did the teacher arrange to let him sit in front or with engaging kids?
have u talked to him about what he is dreaming/thinking about during such spells?
are the work too easy for him?
will u consider giving him fish oil to improve concentration levels?
does he have any learning issues? difficulty to read? or eyesight issue? or hearing issue?
