My kids piano teacher only teaches them 3 piano exam pieces and 2-3 mths before exam then teach aural and sight reading and exam requirement (I can’t remember). Is this normal for all home piano lesson? Oh Ya, My younger one failed her G5 last Sept and when the result came back the piano teacher smsed me :oh the ABRSM changed syllabus more difficult now so some haven’t taught her yet!!!


I felt sorry for my children that I didn’t check around until my recent CNY gathering, I realised my friends’ piano teachers are quite systematic unlike mine.

She is quite nice as a person, always bubbly and chatty, but always cancel lessons and after 4 years she also slacks a lot. 2 one-hours for 2 kids will end up 1 1/2 hour of learning together while she eats, read sms, or plays with her son. She ‘owes’ many 1/2 hour lessons according the notes she jotted down in my kids notebook but have not replaced them.

Should I ask her to replace the missing ones with regular lesson so I don’t have to pay for lessons until the ‘1/2 hrs’ are cleared? Or should I just change a new teacher?

My kids seem demoralized these days, they used to enjoy piano but ever since her son was born, she is distracted most of the lesson, I have been patience and told the kids to bear with it a while. Perhaps I was wrong, leaving the kids to handle all as I have not stayed there during lesson! Now she even cancels lesson 10mins before lesson begins (we were already turning in the condo)!

And their exams are in few weeks time! Who will take over within such short time?
