Should be separate unless things change this year. The dates on the letters were different during my DS time.

can i ask how do we know the results for Edusave character award? is it out yet? thanks

You will receive snail mail from MOE if your child is awarded.

It should be out already or wait for a few more days in case MOE sends the awards by batches. You can also call MOE to check if your child is eligible.

      All the best! :rahrah:

May I ask where I can call MOE? Thank you!

    • RE: Transferring Secondary School at Sec 2

      phtthp\" post_id=\"1969668\" time=\"1585885807\" user_id=\"35251:

For 8-subject combination, in O-level Secondary schools (Express stream), not refering to Normal stream

      1) some schools do Not offer any Triple Science Sec 3 class, not even 1 class

      Example

One of the Secondary schools in Bedok, do not even open one Triple Science class

      Other independent schools like

SST (School of Science & Technology), an example, where her Sec 4 students need to take O level,
does Not permit Triple Science in Sec 3, because her students need to take one compulsory \"Applied\" Sciences subject.
Some students here may prefer to go Polytechnic, instead of to JC
Eg. To popular Bio-medical Diploma course at Singapore Polytechnic, or at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, after their O-level. And after obtained or graduated from their 3-years Bio-medical Diploma, they can proceed to further education in local universities, or abroad overseas universities

      2) for those schools that do offer Triple Science, usually is 1 class formed.
Unless that year, happen to have more demand, then maybe end up with 1.5 classes or sometimes, 2 classes opened

      ===================

However, under the same 8 subject combination, more Sec 3 classes are formed, under \"Double Humanities + Double Sciences\" subject combination, in O-level schools

Part of the underlying reasons, why Triple Science nowadays not popular are

      A) when go up A-level, for Science stream students, as Chemistry is compulsory, got to take either Physics or Bio, means those who had

taken O-level Triple Sciences will need to decide, which one to dis-continue or drop, at A-level

      Also,
Triple Science study workload is very heavy, not easy to handle.
Hence, some students at end of Sec 2 decided to opt for Double Sciences instead, to alleviate burden.

      Example

Those students who are strong or who possess a natural flair in Mathematics, tend to choose Physics instead of Bio, in their Double Sciences. Upper Sec Physics subject itself, also have a lot of Maths calculation, involved. E.g. Kinematics, Forces, Energy, Electricity, Magnetism, Pressure, Heat, Wave Theory etc. Precisely bec there's a lot of calculations involved in Physics, and if your Maths is strong, that helps a lot in Physics. Maths and Physics, these two, go hand-in-hand

In contrast, Bio : no Maths computation involved. Not much connection with Maths. Totally a different field of study (or specialization).

      B) the entrance qualifying criteria, to study Triple Sciences in Sec 3, set by individual schools that do offer, can be stringent (demanding)
Yes, you are right. Triple sci is really demanding. My sch has 3 trip sci classes, 3classes with double sciences¿, 2 classes for MEP; AEP and lastly two ALP classes.

Trip sci classes in my school normally end school at ard 3.30, with heavy workload plus high expectations set by Teachers. To qualify for trip sci, you have to score at least A1 for both sci and math, as for your other subjs, they have to at least be of average. Even though they filter students to diff trip sci classes based on elective chosen, we still know which class is the ‘top’ triple sci class.
I have many seniors from trip sci, and their Teachers always expect them to get A1 for their trip sci, A-math and E-math. If you get an A2, it’s considered ‘bad’ in a Teachers perspective as they seem to expect ‘better’.
For my senior, she had this chemistry teacher who ran a system like this:
If you get A1 for chem( quizzes, WAs etc. )you’re alright
If your TABLE PARTNER gets an A2 while u get an A1, you have to copy the entire paper/quiz twice bc your partner got an A2.
If you got a B3, your table partner got a B3 as well,
      3+3=6 so...
each of them have to copy the entire quiz 6 times

I guess this does motivate students to get their A1, and yes trip sci is VERY STRESSFUL if you will crack under pressure.

      ...
      Frankly, this statement is:
      A) out of sync with the times
      B) plain BS

Well, I don’t want to argue with you since it’s your opinion...
but in a students perspective, ALL of my friends in IP schools had cases of classmates with depression due to the stress there. Parents might not know about this, but students do. I’m a little off topic now, but what I really wanna say is, if your child can qualify for IP, don’t force them to choose that route just because it’s ‘prestigious’. Have a heart to heart talk with them, after all, it’s your child studying in the school, NOT YOU.

    • RE: IP vs O level

In my opinion, both IP and O level are equally stressful…

I have many friends from IP schools and they’ve told me over 80% of their classmates have tuition, and being in an IP school, some students feel like it is a must to do well. With the very competitive environment in these schools, despite them having more project works which seem to ‘make them less stress’, more students would be stressed out. However, if you’re the type that do well with pressure, and prefer more project work than exams, go for IP! Moreover, entering an IP school helps you secure a place in jc, but if you can’t make up your mind, I suggest you go for the O level route in a school that offers both IP and O level, as you would have the opportunity to transfer in sec 2 if u feel like IP suits you better.

For O levels, schools place more emphasis on studies thus there would be more individual work and maybe one or two projs in a semester. Moreover, if you progress to jc and (touch wood) don’t do well in A levels, you still have your O level cert to fall back on in the future when choosing a job. Taking the O levels would give you more time to choose the route you want to take post-secondary, you can choose between ITE, poly or jc.

Whatever choices you make, good luck and all the best!!

i see. Thank you for the explaination, qms. Appreciated

In that case, means that this Secondary school of \"just_anotherstudent\" allow Triple Sciences, with 8 subjects combination. That's great !

In that case, with Elective Geography at O level, later on, when enter Junior College, \"just_anotherstudent\" can continue to take H2 Geography, or take H2 Economics, as a contrasting subject, since she is most likely going to end up as a Science stream student, in JC.

Yes, different Secondary schools operate differently, because some schools allow Triple Sciences, with 9 subjects combination, including Higher Music / or HIgher Art / or 3rd foreign language (Spanish /French / German / Japanese), as the number 9th subject
Woah, there’s actually a lot to learn about subj combo, this site really does broaden my knowledge on my subject combos in the future, thanks for that!
My school does offer higher music/art and third lang as O level subj, I’m currently in the music elective programme but my school gives us the option of dropping it at the end of sec 2, which is what I’m planning to do as I don’t think I can handle too many subjs.
Once again, all these information were really useful and will definitely help me in choosing my subj combos in the future!!
      :thankyou:

your current co-ed Secondary school offer very good internal ALP (Applied Learning programme) training, in place.

Attend these useful in-house ALP made available for the students and if you can continue to maintain good grades (A1 or A2) consistently, in your Upper Secondary (3 and 4) Core subjects that formulate your L1R5 score,

If she wants to challenge herself academically, she should not take ALP in her current school.

yes, I actually intend to take triple science with elect geog in sec 3 if I’m eligible for it 😓

How many Sec 1 classes are there, in CCHMS ? Are they randomly mixed, hence all Sec 1 classes become Mixed ability, or classes go by Tscore ?

Are there more boys than girls, in this school, or equally balanced gender (50 % each) ? Thanks

(asking for my friend, posted to this school)
it seems a little late to reply now but yeah!!
I’m a current sec two student in CCHM, and there is a class for music special programme( for students with music background, if I’m not wrong, the requirement is grade 3/5 to get accepted?
Most classes are mixed randomly, but in my cohort there is a ‘best’ class because most of the students who score at least 25+ for psle are in that class, the top scorer for our year, 269+3 is also in that class. Maybe the school does filter, but technically most students are allocated randomly and only if you apply for the music special programme, then you would be in the same class as those who applied for this programme as well
      hope this helps! 😄

    • RE: Transferring Secondary School at Sec 2

      hi all,

I’ve been considering for a transfer to either rgs/nygh since sec one, as I had initially planned to go there, but I did not do well for psle thus I had no choice but to go to another school. I like the environment in these schools as most of the students seem to take their studies seriously, unlike some people in my school. I’m from a co-ed school and it’s really irritating to see some of my batch mates thinking of dating when it isn’t a priority at our age right now. I scored 249+3 for psle and did quite well in secondary one as I’ve gotten the edusave scholarship and I’ve also gotten distinction for my grade 8 piano exam. However, I’ve read the requirements for transfer to rgs and nygh, and both schools stated ‘excellent/outstanding academic results’, so I’m not sure how they define ‘excellent’. If I’ve been getting A1s/A2s constantly, and do extremely well for my mye( as in getting ard 90s for all subj ), would I stand a chance in transferring? I really need advice because I heard most girls who transfer to rgs are mostly (if not all) on ASEAN scholarship, and there are little who transferred from local sec schs. If I don’t stand a chance I would not bother applying because I also found out that applying for a sec 3 transfer to nygh also require an administrative fee of $140. Thanks in advance! 😄
