    • RE: Ngee Ann Primary

I was at Ngee Ann at about 4pm also on Friday. We were number 231. It was a big risk as there were parents coming in. It was either Ngee Ann or my wife quits her job and my son would go to Kong Hwa. We were looking for a single session school.

Well, my son is now in Ngee Ann Primary. 😄

Hi, I know it only offers Chinese. My son is going to take Chinese next year.

I am thinking of sending my son to St Gabriel's as one of the choices mainly because it is single session and it is 4 mrt stops (circle line) from my place. How is the school? Anyone got any feedback?

I live a stone's throw from Kong Hwa. I am just wondering, will there be any problems for my son other than the fact that we do not speak Chinese at home and we are Indians. Will my son face problems because he is different?

    • RE: All About Choosing Piano Schools And Teachers

My son has just started piano lessons at Kawai and we are looking at getting a keyboard for him as a start as we are not sure whether he is interesting in piano. (Incidentally, I have also started piano lessons at Kawai as well - different teacher at my wife’s encouragement. She wanted me to do something else other than work.)

Any recommendations for keyboards, while we fill the piggy bank to buy a piano in the future.

    • RE: Comparing Chinese Enrichment (Primary/Preschool)

I am actually looking for classes which give a good foundation for P1 Chinese for my son. We are Indians and thus, may not have much home support other than helping him to write the characters, hanyu pinyin and getting a tutor for Chinese to read books with him and do poems.

He is very intereste in Chinese and he enjoys his lessons.

Since both Tien Hsia and Berries have good reputations, hence the distance vs the cost question.

    • RE: Teaching your kid a language.

According to my wife, who is a child care teacher, young children are able to learn 3 or 4 languages at the same time. For my son, he is learning

English - his preferred language and he will use English if he realises the person understands English even if the person is speaking in Mandarin.

      Chinese

Gujarati - mainly with my wife and his cousins.

Hindi - similar to Gujarati but we watch Hindi movies and the Hindi channels - Zee TV, Start Plus and Sony on Starhub.

He is able to respond. When my wife went back to visit her parents, my boy was speaking quite a bit of Gujarati.

    • RE: Comparing Chinese Enrichment (Primary/Preschool)

if you had the following choices - which would you choose?

      1. Tien Hsia - further away, cheaper, 39 lessons a year
      2. Berries - walking distance - 500m, more expensive ($150 more per term), 48 lessons a year.

      :?:

Berries at Mountbatten CC is opening in mid October.

What is the class size for Berries? In Tien Hsia, it is 10 students? Still contemplating whether to switch to Berries next year as it is closer to my place.

    • RE: Top Primary school?

I was looking at the results of PSLE 2007 and I realized that only 3 of the top 15 pupils are boys!!! 😐

Strange considering more than half of a cohort are boys!

Does this mean in Pri 6, girls are more hardworking?
