I’m one of those who kinda think any bag would do. So I got my son a $30 bag. I felt bad seeing him carrying that bag on his first few days of school… he was slouching and then on the second day he came back home … with the bag broken… one of the shoulder straps was detached. His classmates laughed at him.
So on my friends’ recommendation, I went to Scool in Parkway Parade where they recommended me the Ergobag. I think they also have a shop in Marina Square and Jem. It’s not the cheapest bag but at $198 I felt it was a good deal as its an excellent design with internal frames that you only find in expensive hiking backpacks. The sales staff made me try the larger version for teenagers and adults. I think it’s called Satch. The Satch was really good. Although they fully loaded the bag with books, it didn’t feel heavy. The frame allows the weight to be redistributed away from the shoulders to the hip areas. It actually feels nice as you can feel the weight pressing on your lumbar area and helps you to stand straight. The staff told me it’s the same design you find in good hiking backpacks that allows serious hikers to carry heavy loads on their mountain trips or those angmohs backpacking in hostels around the world.
The bag comes with a three year warranty and I felt sceptical about it. What manufacturer in his right mind would provide a THREE year warranty for a school bag? I thought maybe the warranty could be restrictive but I was told that they cover everything even the zips and buckles, although for accidentally damaged buckles, they will charge a minimal fee for repair but with free buckles replacement.
Anyway, the reason I’m writing this is because I got a great product with excellent sales service and I thought the best way to thank them is to give them a shout about the product. My son really loves his bag. It comes with those really cool velcro badges. My only concern now is that I hope my son doesn’t forget his bag in school as he did a few times in kindergarten. I can’t afford another bag like this.
