All primary schools are equally good or bad as class sizes are about the same and the teachers don’t get to choose their postings. Ultimately, if the kid is precocious, he or she will do well irrespective of the school.

This year has been unusual in that only a few schools will be balloting SCs < 1 km under phase 2B. This is probably a one off event and things will be back to normal next year (my guess). The main issue is that these ‘popular’ schools are becoming even more ‘popular’ and that means a higher take up rate in the earlier phases. I will not be surprised if certain schools will only ever have the minimum for phases 2B & C. (ie only 20 places in each phase).


As for the population decreasing, I don’t think this will affect the ‘popular’ choices in the near future. So better plan ahead and get those volunteer hours in if you are targeting phase 2B at Nanyang/Taonan/Rosyth etc.
