Your turn this year A levels. I heard LKC is harder to enter than YLL. Anyway all the best to your DS. He no problem one.

Probability of entering LKC is lower due to lower intake of approx 100 vs 300 students in YLL. But once you're on the waitlist of LKC your chances of getting in are high.
I dont think LKC is harder though.
1) its not as well established + in a few years time,an LKC grad would find his bosses, directors, consultants are all YLL alumni
2) u need to take bmat which costs $400+ and some people wont bother
3) if LKC will take you, chances are YLL will take you too as their requirements are quite similar. I know this is kiasuparents.com but really no need to be so kiasu. 400/3000(no. of ppl applying for med) and 300/3000 not much diff.
As an extension to point 3(more applicable to guys), just apply to YLL first. If u get it then good, save time save money. If u dont, take it as a learning point, prepare yourself more and apply again next year. This is cos LKC only allows u to apply once but YLL allows multiple applications.

@dagong99

Can u post a screenshot or pm me the offer letter? Its unlikely they’d just give out scholarships without at least an interview unless your child is like some superstar.
For mine, nus mailed out an invite, not the open house. I personally wouldnt go to open house cos its always very crowded and you dont get much contact time.

May I know if you are offered NUS scholarship, can you accept now and reject later ?

Deadline of acceptance is by Nov, which is before the start of most university applications and the reason for turning down the offer maybe you get another offer for another course or from another university which you will only know in Apr next year.

The dilemma is if you reject the offer now and you are not accepted by your other choice later, you have already forgo your scholarship.

Anyone has similar experience ? Thanks !
From their briefing session, what they said contradicts what u just said, unless they got another special window for early application. It opens 13oct ends 26dec i think. The interviews take place next year jan-feb, and its only for non-med/law/dentistry courses. Also nus lets u hold their scholarship and apply to other scholarships/universities without penalty as they want students who are really into nus so no worries.

Just to share what some of my seniors got.

I think its better to apply earlier esp if your predicted grades are all As already. Although the requirements are identical no matter when u apply, the scarcity effect usually sets in later in the application period. While there is no clear cap on no. of scholarships, the reality is that the cap is already there because of limited budget. So if i have 50 places for 100 applicants in sep vs 10 places for 100 applicants in march, obviously it will be much harder as scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis(ie after every batch, most likely by month of application). So some of my seniors got an offer the day after their interview around oct.
Of course there are exceptions like say if u havent prepped enough on the standard stuff to say, then better to wait after A’s. Dec still not too late.

Thanks for your sharing! Looks like diff ppl have diff views about how hard it is to get nus scholarships. Some others in the forum and my ecg counsellor thinks nus one quite easy-they dont even vet personal statements for local unis but they do for overseas. Also, the timing of interviews seems quite varied as i had seniors who had their interviews before A’s ended
Hi, is it true that there is a by-invitation only early application for NUS scholarships for selected students from each school? When do they get to apply and will these students be given priority over those who apply in the normal cycle (i.e. after A level results are released)? If so, what % of the total NUS scholarships are awarded to them?

There are 5 NUS scholarships available currently. Any one knows roughly how many Medicine students are awarded these scholarships every year, if possible by type (as in, how many NUS Global Merit, how many NUS Undergraduate Merit etc?) Shouldn't be too many I suppose ...

Thanks in advance. 🙂

Yes it's true. Typically students are invited to apply after their prelims results are known.
I don't think there is early cycle for medicine and dentistry and law.
Application has started till end Dec. Assessment in Jan and Feb. So it means successful applicants will be given early offer of a place in nus.

Zeemimi ( or anyone), Do u happen to know what is the percentage of pupils who are selected for this Early Admission for NUS scholarship ?

I have the same question as \" Sleeping Beauty\" i.e...would applicants who applied thru this Early Admission if not shortlisted, be given priority under regular application based on A level results ??
Anyone has info to share on this ?

With regards to Medicine, Laws n Dentistry...from the email received, it stated ...

Students applying for Dentistry, Law and Medicine should not submit any early applications, as applicants for Dentistry, Law and Medicine will only be assessed in April 2016. You should submit your admissions and scholarship applications separately to NUS during the regular application period in March 2016, after the release of the GCE ‘A’ Level results)

Deadline of application is 21 Dec 2015...
Hi there im a current j2 student and nus also said they will be sending out invites for their early scholarship and admission in oct. So just wanted to be more prepared and would like to know when their interviews will take place. Will it be in the midst of preparation for A levels or in dec hols? Also when will one know the results of the early application? Thanks in advance!
