River Valley is a little bit nearer, but Radin Mas is in phase 2A.

Actually, most students are not GEP.
The final intake of 170+ students comes from ～80 primary schools, not all of which are top schools. My son's school is just a neighborhood school, and last year, 4 students from his school got into NUSH.

I feel that among the top schools, NUSH offers the most fairness and opportunities. At least everyone has a chance to sit in the selection test, Unlike in other schools where most applicants get eliminated in the shortlisting stage.

The idea and intention of DSA was never fair in the 1st place when admission is pegged at academic merit for the general masses. How do you assess fairness when a school cop is for example 6 and the hurdle for DSA is not more than 20 for the same school. Unless the whole masses can be convinced that 1 unit of whatever talent used to DSA has the same value as 1 unit of academic excellence. Since not everyone will be convinced, this fairness debate will forever exist.

For competitive sports-related DSAs, intentionally selecting a low-scoring student would indeed be unfair and quite conspicuous. It would also be rather stupid to do so in Singapore. I feel that arts and music-related DSAs are easier to manipulate. The more difficult to quantify, the more they rely on subjective judgments of the judges.

I don't deny that most DSA domains are accessible to ordinary people, such as math Olympiad, drawing, bilingual... That's why these popular domains are so competitive now. Every year, there are thousands of applicants for the math DSA at RI/HCI, competing for just a few dozen spots.

However, those “atas” domains are the real backdoors. Even if these domains only admit one or two students, as long as you have money and time, your child can easily DSA into a top school through these \"backdoors\", without having to compete with others. I don't think this is very fair.

Of course, the fairest is always the PSLE.

DSA was never meant to be fair. How many families can afford to spend money/time for their children to learn fencing, golf, canoeing during primary school? And these are all DSA talent areas for top secondary schools

Yes, NUSH will require applicants to submit their Primary 6 SA1 results.

If a child’s grades are only considered normal, it is strongly advised not to rely on DSA through arts and sports to enter a top-tier school. Even if they manage to get in, it could be overwhelming.
