Happy to check in to this group too! I didn't have many chances to contribute in the previous thread as I joined late. Hope to be able to do so in this 😄

Dress code is the same for all years.

      There are 3 types:
      Formal: Shirt + Pants/Skorts + Tie
      Informal: Polo Tee + Pants/Bermudas/Skorts
PE: PE Attire (top + bottom)
:thankyou:
We bought 1 set formal, 4 sets informal, 1 set PE as I wash their uniform once a week. Remember to buy the tie and lab coat too.
Thanks for the tips!! 😄
Monday requires formal wear + tie.

The rest of the days require informal wear.
One day requires PE attire, in addition to what they would wear for that day.

Most students wear track shoes. The requirements are generally that it has to be covered (no sandals or slippers), not too bright (e.g. not neon orange) and is white based.

Thks Artume. What is informal wear? And formal wear for Y1 boys is long pants or short pants?

Hi… would appreciate if any existing parent or student can advise on the number of sets of uniform we need to buy? What do Sec 1 boys need to wear? And for PE attire, how many sets needed?

We received the email from the school about the matriculation day. I was hoping to buy the uniform before the school reporting day so to avoid possible long queues.

      Thanks!!

      thank you.

Can someone also advise price of a normal meal / fast food at:
      - Italy (Rome/Pisa/Florence/Venice/Milan)
      - Switzerland (Lucerne/Interlaken)
      - Paris

      TIA!

      a 2 course meal generally is around 10 to 20 euros in a non-fancy restaurant/cafe

in France, the Romaine group is very reasonable, you can get around 10 euros for a main course + dessert or main course + drink

can't remember the price of big mac but remember it is not cheap, and one interesting thing - the cheese burger in Swiss is as big as the child's face!

in Paris, there are plenty of options from stand-only cafe to sit down restaurant (french, american, chinese)...Paul's croissant along champs elysees is 1.85 euro (same price still?), super nice, always tabao back to hotel room, further down the block near to Mercedes showroom and Marriott Hotel you would find the price-friendly Romaine.....same price in Paris as in Provence....and a sit down dinner at Laduree (across the street) is at least 40 euros for a simple 3 course/pax. one of the highlight is to see the queue for buying its macarons every evening (offer price)

reward yourself after a day of shopping at LV store one block from Laduree

there are some chinese take aways near to Concorde

over at the Lafayette @ Haussmann, the onsite cafe has reasonably priced meals too

If you like mussels, I recommend you try this chain of restaurants in Paris called Leon de Bruxelles. The mussels are very fresh and tasty! Set menu, consisting of a pot of mussels and a dessert starts from about 18 euros. This comes with fries and bread as well. Try their Belgian beer too!! They have several branches all across Paris. Google them to find the nearest one to where you will be. I went to the one near Opera Garnier around Haussmann area.

As for Macarons, the other brand you could try besides Laduree is Pierre Herme.
For Italy Venice, is it worth to go for the Gondola Ride?

Also for Switzerland Lucerne, is the Jungfrau worth to go?

      Thanks.

Yes. The gondola ride is the most romantic part of the whole visit.

It's horrendously expensive, though! If the romantic experience is important, you may feel it's worth it, but if not, there is a quick and cheap way to experience a gondola ride. There are a few canal crossings which use old gondolas. The crossings only last a few minutes and cost about 1 or 0.5 euros, can't remember now. And you can cross a few times if you want to! We went with kids, and so the romance wasn't important.
I personally think that the gondola rides are over-hyped... Expensive for sure! If never tried before, should go for just the experience. But once is more than enough.

Jungfrau is a must go for Switzerland!! If I am not wrong, it is the 2nd highest mountain in Switzerland, after the Matterhorn in Zermatt. You definitely cannot miss the train ride up the Jungfrau - it is one the most scenic train rides ever! And up at Jungfrau, which has been touted as the top of Europe, it snows literally all year long! The snow is incredible! We don't ski, but we had an awesome time playing around in the snow. Jungfrau is a thousand times better than Mt Titlis (one of the most commonly visited mountains in Switzerland). It doesn't even snow up at Titlis anymore!

May I check if anyone has received an email to ask you to enter & upload your PSLE results ? It says to facilitate class allocation...hmm, something new. I thought there is no preference and class allocation is random ?

Yes, we received... oh is this not required previously?

My DS will be joining the NUSH family next year... and he is really excited about that! 🕺

I have a question I hope some experienced parents / students would be able to help shed some light on... What is the take up rate for 3rd language for 1st year students at NUSH? Are there more students taking the inhouse French or Jap compared to the ones offered at MOELC? Will taking 3rd lang be too heavy a load for the 1st year students, considering that there is already a big jump in the number of modules they will be taking compared to P6.

Any advice very much appreciated. Thanks!!

It really depends on the individual. Those taking Jap or french has to pay monthly fee of $100 as both are conducted inhouse and not at MOELC.

My DD took Japanese for 4 years on top of everything else. Her school mates that took Jap also last for 4 years. Hardly anyone drop out. The class is about 10-15 per year. With small intake and a full-time Japanese teacher for Y1-Y4. Each year they also take the JLPT exam by Japanese embassy. At y2/Y3 there is an exchange programme for NUSH student to go Kyoto for 1 week home-stay with exchange student. Likewise, the Jap exchange student come to S'pore to experience home-stay with local student.

One thing for sure, the students are all serious about japanese langauge and most of them scored A and A+ for every semester Japanese language exam. Foreign language are electives and good grade like A/A+ can be used to beef up the overall CAP.

\" Will taking 3rd lang be too heavy a load for the 1st year students, considering that there is already a big jump in the number of modules they will be taking compared to P6\" - This Qns can only be answered by the individual. In NUSH, the really good students can be taking many things at the same time eg Olympiads, CCA leadership role, foreign languages , research attachment etc. and yet still excel academically while taking part in competition. It is all a qns of time management, desire and passion which drive the individual.

      :thankyou: matadorepy!
