Hi everyone! I'm new here, and hope to attain some valuable advice.

My daughter has secured a place through a confirmed offer for two schools; Temasek Junior College and the School Of The Arts. We are trying to scour through websites to know on which school is better for her, but to no avail.
I would like to know your opinion on which school is better.
      Thanks.

depends on what future career path road-map your daughter is interested to embark on, and also the type of educational path that she intend to throd (walk) on, experience through.

If she's very passionate over Arts, or have the career ambition of opening up a future dance school (eg : like Shawn & Gladys dance studio that type), or a future business that is related to fine Arts performance, SOTA (School of the Arts) leading to a 6 years intensive IB curriculum, may help.

But if she's keen to take GCE A level exam in some pure Science subjects (A level Physics / Chemistry / Biology), and from there enter university's hard-core (Dentistry / Medicine / Sciences / Engineering ) related faculty, etc. then Temasek Junior College (TJC), is a wiser choice.

In the past, TJC used to be one of the Top, popular Junior Colleges in Singapore, during the reign of ex (former) Principal, Mr. Eugene Wijeysingha. Today, with additional IP schools set up in the east nearby, like (Dunman High and Victoria Secondary who is affliated to Victoria Junior College) : although Temasek Junior College may not be the Top Tier IP school, however, TJC is still a very well-established, respectable Junior college, with decade(s) of thick history.
for TJC (IP) Sec 1 intake : 150 students
out of which : 35 % (approx. 50 students) entered by DSA, with the remaining (balance) entry or come in, by PSLE T-score.
150 IP students is a small cohort.
Thus, lots of attention and plenty of opportunities will be provided, to groom this small talented pool of 150 IP students well, for the next 6 years.

perhaps, may read past batches' parents comments, regarding SOTA :-
      https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=13641&start=10

      What phtthp said is correct.
My eldest girl is currently in TJC IP year 4. I can vouch that the personal attention is excellent. Teachers know almost all students by name and students know their own cohort well too.
My girl is a low profile plain jane but i think almost all IP Teachers know who she is!

To share a academic statistic produced by the school in a parent meeting - about 60% of the top 40 JC1 students were home-grown IP students when IP students only comprised of 25% of JC cohort.

Not to promote or giving free ad about Tjc here but to give a balanced view. Hope it helps.

How will others give you their opinions when you nvr even state what domains she got her CO from?

Secondly, TJC is IP program leading to A level examination which is a much easier passage entry to local Universities, whereas SOTA is a six-year integrated arts and academic curriculum, leading to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

In the end, what does your daughter really want? To pursue for local Degree from various faculty of her choice in our local Universities or to further her whatever Art talents she talented in.

FYI, TJC aren’t the old junior college as before. It have lost some of its appeal and popularity over the last few years.

I think sakura is referring to music domain since that is the only common domain in both schools.
Sota focuses on perfecting your craft. I heard practices are on a daily basis. If the interest is there to sustain such high intensity, then i think it will be perfect place for the child. Sota culture is a bit like international school - more liberal and students generally vocal.
Tjc is an old established jc. It is still more academic focus with music just an additional subject. Abachee pointed out that tjc has lost its appeal in recent years. I guess it is due to the sprouting of more IP schools in recent years, esp in the east side, which diluted its intake of top sec school students. Tjc is not the top ip school (that’s a fact) but at least still an ip school.

Not all children are suitable to be in the R or H school. Just like not all suitable to be in an art or sport school too.

DD got a WL from TJC. Does anyone know what is the chance of conversion to CO based on historical data? Any idea how many CO and WL are given out?

Should be good as there are bound to have people who decide not to take up CO.

      Hi 🙂

I'm taking PSLE this year and had applied for TJC through DSA.
I'm so anxious rn as the GAT didn't go that smoothly... I randomly did 3 Qs 😢
If I got 2 A*s and 2 high As for this years SA1, do you think it's possible for me to get accepted?
I rlly hope I can get in :3 I like the programs in the school ^^
      Your grades look very good.
If you are selected for interview, you would still stand a good chance.
Tjc is a good school. All the best to you.

How can I find out more about the IP programme at TPJC? Are there drastic changes to the programme every year?

All its programmes are contained in its website and you can download a copy of its prospectus too. No drastic changes in programme as i understand.

Can anyone here share about the Higher Chinese in TJC?

I'm still thinking if I should send girl to TJC as her Chinese is only low A or high B.

We are in Sengkang. Not sure which is the most direct route to TJC.

      Please advise.
If the child is adaptable, i believe she still can cope with higher chinese. Tjc is a Chinese Language Elective Programme school so standard naturally high.

I think nearest way from Seng Kang should be via bus.

Any thoughts on TJC?Just went for the IP open house, school looks pretty alright, just that its not so clean due to the rainy weather.Students are generally respectful and kind.Talked to the principal who seems rather friendly.

Main thing that I like about TJ would be their special programmes, overall good impression of school.
My ds in ip1. He enjoys himself a lot. Tj does not over focus on academic and emphasise on character and value building. Tj has a small cohort so it does offer give due attention to each student.

Hi, my DD is P6 this year, exploring TJC IP. We visited last year's Open House.

May I know if the school has plans to move or upgrade the compound? I vaguely remembered someone mentioned it. Any advice or comments on the DSA process? What kind of students it TJC looking for? I recall there are very limited CCA options for S1 students. Will students \"miss out\" on secondary school life?
Tjc has no plans to relocate.
For dsa, tjc is looking for well rounded students i.e. gd balance of academic and cca.

Yes, Cca is a bit limited but students can choose to join jc level cca if one is interested. Although limited, i understand tjc allows students who have no background in tt cca to join it e.g. dance club, which is not very common in other schools.
