Alhana14 - When my DD was in sec 1 in 2017 the whole cohort went through a first round trial selection thing to shortlist those girls who are more suitable for sports in general. Then all these shortlisted girls try out for all the sports cca (they go round the various stations) and then I think they receive an invite if the CCAs are interested in having them join. These girls then have the option of putting that cca on their option form when they select CCAs.

Not so sure about the 2 CCAs part though. Generally now the kids don’t do 2 CCAs (unlike our time in school) cos they go fairly intensive in the one CCA alone. Performing Arts groups meet 2 to 3 times a week. Some of the sports are the same. So it might be quite a stretch for your girl. Not to mention the timings of the CCA days will probably clash.

As for sec 3 combination, the school offers the following as "compulsory"
      English
      MT/HMT (no CLB)
      E. Math
      A. Math
      Social Studies
Chemistry (either pure or as part of combined science)

The recommended combination is 2 Lang, 2 math, 2 science, 2 humanities.

They offer all 3 humanities as core and elective.

They also have econs, MEP, DEP, Art as other subjects.

Triple science and combined science both offered. Most girls take 2 pure sciences… either pure chem pure bio or pure chem pure physics.

Because it’s a single stream school, they are able to offer the girls more choices compared to the other schools with 3 streams.

      sh3398:

Hi. I am an ex-tkgian, and graduated about 3 years ago. At that time, we had 8 classes, means from 1/1-1/8, and during my batch, although we weren't told, I think the classes were banded according to your strongest subject.

1/1 - considered the best class in my cohort
1/2-1/5 - banded according to your strongest subject (according to result in PSLE), English, Mathematics, Science or Mother Tongue (but i am unsure of the order)
      1/6 - (not very sure)
      1/7 & 1/8 - MEP classes

This was what we realised after studying for a year or so in TKGS, especially in Sec 2 when subject combination came into the picture. I am not sure if it has changed, or if this is absolutely accurate as generally will not tell you how the classes were allocated
      Thanks sh3398... appreciate that.

This year they have only 6 classes of 40 girls. So I'm guessing 1/6 is the MEP class... yeah... in a way it's good that the school does not want to state outright... I can understand that. I was curious cos I know of girls with a variety of tscores and some girls in 1/3 have lower scores than those in 1/4 etc.

      Thanks again! 🙂

Does anyone know how the girls are assigned their classes in sec 1? Is it based on psle results? Or are the classes "mixed ability"? I know 1/7 is the MEP class. What about the other classes?

So it seems 229 is indeed the lowest tscore to enter TKGS this year. I’m sure they are now faced with an avalanche of appeals. A friend is appealing for her girl and was told they will only know the results either mid or end Jan, and will only be contacted if successful. Wah, I would hate hanging in the air like that… but I guess no choice if want to appeal.

      00skyblue00:
Schools in RED: It will be clearer if the COP for affiliation is included in the list. Could it be that the COP for affiliation is lowered for the schools with COP for expressed in RED? Or is this actually a fixed score?

Except for RGS, which is without affiliation. It could be those high scores spillover from NYGH as NYGH's COP remained the same (more stringent for non-affiliated students to get in).
Generally speaking, the cop for affiliated students will not change from year to year. If it does change, it will go higher as schools that gain autonomy will likely RAISE their criteria for their affiliates students rather than lower it.

Schools with no set criteria take in ALL affiliated kids who put them as first choice, before opening up vacancies for non-affiliated kids.

Schools with set criteria (eg. SMSS express cut off for smps students is 200, below that, the smps girls have to opt for NA to be guaranteed a place in SMSS) will take in ALL affiliated kids who MEET criteria AND put them as first choice, before opening to non-affiliated kids.

So not possible for cop to be deliberately lowered. It just depends on how many affiliated kids opt for their affiliated sec schs as first choice.

      Hope that clarifies.
