RE: DSA 2014
KateCam:
Her dream school is NYGH, but she got WL for NYGH. She got offended and swore to go to RGS with her CO.
All right.
it will give a place to one girl whose dream school is NYGH. That's all right for both of them. -
RE: DSA 2014
RI not the only school in SG le. Wonder why pp must die die keep pointing to that school with vitriol. Unless one is inside that school, how the world anyone outside will know how the school is like inside?
:scratchhead:
Haven't really firmed up on which schs for ds to DSA yet but one thing I do know ... pple tend not to target the second best in any category, sch or otherwise.
, pple have different criteria on which the best one is. So ds happily went to his first best one lah.

RE: DSA 2014
thanks GiftedGem...he will still go for the njc principal meeting though, just to get a final feel...
Good to keep the options open unless yr DS is eyeing for his dream CO sch. Is it HCI?
his dream school is RI, but he didn't make it past the GAT. his main gripe about HCI is it is a 'Chinese' school but i told him it is a very good school which many others hope to get in. Furthermore it runs in the family, most of us are from hwa chong and myself NYGH so i want the same values, vs RI's elitism. My jc was njc though...hehe...he will also go for the hci symposium. i only hope he doesnt give up these COs to bang on RI via psle!
My Ds and I dislike RI's elitism.

RE: DSA 2014
When you compare, you will feel unfair.
Yup, comparing with GEPs, MSers feel unfair;
comparing with GEP schools, MS schools feel unfair;
comparing with SC students, PR students feel unfair;
comparing with PR students, foreign students feel unfair.
However, the formers often say that's fair,
DSA is over. All DC need to prove themselves in Plse. Many times, top MSers have higher T-scores than GEPs.
Sometimes, I wonder what the average scores of GEPs in the several top schools are.
Don' compare with others, encourage DC trying to get their best score, which should be enough to get the CO of NYGH and also the scholarship of 14400 SD. -
RE: DSA 2014
I feel that it is very unfair. My DD loves everything of NYGH, she's just so into NYGH. But she didn't get CO, or even WL! She's devastated and she cried to sleep yesterday. As a mummy, I was heartbroken.
But I told her that she will still have chance during PSLE. She seemed like she had no confidence in herself and was so down, not bubbly and happy like her usual self.
She is top in her school, and have very good results for all subjects since P1! She can project her voice well also. I don't understand why she is not chosen.
I also don't understand why NYGH must have this affiliation process for NYPS students. It's very unfair for girls who really like NYGH. What is so good about NYPS girls that they can enter the school at just 252>? Then as some KSP said earlier, they like RGS. Then NYGH is just a substitute. Why are they still \"volunteering\" to be substitutes for RGS?
Again, what if my girl have 259 for PSLE, she still can't get in NYGH. And the NYPS girls that have 252 can already get in? It seems really unfair. I hope this affiliation will stop.
No offence too NYPS girls' parents.
You need adjusting DD's feeling.
DSA is completely over, the Psle is coming, and it is the PK time of top MSers.
During the DSA, the most COs of RGS and NYGH are given to the GEPs, so a MSer, even being the top, is difficult to get a CO. There are more than 100 primary schools... -
RE: DSA 2014
Actually after going through the dsa process, some kids may change their minds about their first choice school, there are other stuff that may affect their choices. This is especially so for kids going through cca domain as the teachers in charge or coaches may swing/affect their decision.
Probably will still try by DSA. If by academics, it seems like PSLE is almost the only way for them....
DC need higher scores to ensure entering RI, so they need working hard, and RI will has a higher COP....Next year, this will replay.
It is difficult for KSPs/DC.
Each school is a good school?

RE: DSA 2014
RI has 6 GEP classes, and HCI only has 2 classes. HCI gave only ~60% GEPs COs, so it can give more COs to MSers. Therefore, it is more difficlult to enter HCI than RI for GEPs,
thanks. that means HCI gives about 180 places to GEP boys and finally only about 60 are filled. there are about 120 places for WL.
Nope, that means if RI give ~180 places to GEPs, HCI only gives ~120 places to GEPs and gives ~60 COs to MSers. Then, about 60 GEPs gave up their COs of HCI, and 60 WLs of HCI will fill them. -
RE: DSA 2014
My DD also received SCGS CO via snail mail today
:congrats: , has a great burger at last. -
RE: DSA 2014
This is my personal opinion and what I have figured out after gone through couple of DSA applications with my children......
The chances of getting CO for GEPs are higher in RI over HCI as nearly 90% of GEP boys in our school got CO from RI as compare to slightly above 60% from HCI. In fact quite a number of boys were rejected by HCI.
I think HCI entrance test place a very important part.
We came to know that the top ms student in our school were rejected by RI through DSA but he managed to get in with 270+ PSLE score.
As I understand there is only ONE ms student who got CO from RI as he consistently top in all MO competitions but interestingly he was rejected by HCI.
Through all these years of observing the DSA selection process, I personally felt that ms student will not stand a good chance to get CO from RI as they give priority to GEP.
If your children are not GEP, why not try to apply DSA through sports as every year RI offered quite a number of DSA to students who are very good in certain
sports.
Thx for your info.care to share finally how many went toRI and how many went to HCI?
