RE: Edusave Scholarship Award
Our P6 dd received her letter for EAGLES yesterday and Edusave Scholarship today.
Our P3 dd is still waiting for her letter for Good Progress Award. MOE’s officer said that the letter has been sent out and will reach us by this week. -
RE: All About T-Score
Sun_2010:
If there are 100 possible scores for each subject, there will be 100,000,000 permutations hence the likelihood of someone in a cohort of 40,000 candidates getting the same exact T-score as you to the last decimal will only occur once in every 2,500 PSLE exams :siam:
but if 2 students scored the exactly same raw marks in all the subjects , then no matter how many decimals are taken, the T score will be the same , no :?pirated:
Seriously, at least 13 decimal places
So far balloting is unheard of.
Albeit, that should be very few, if at all any, such cases . -
RE: Crescent Girls' or St Nicholas Girls'
Sniper Angel:
SNGS COP 2015 was lower because the school moved to a holding school for a year. Its COP would be higher this year since the school is back at its original premises after renovation. In terms of COP, both schools does not differ much base on the O level track.
COP CGS = 242 (2015)
SNGS = 245 (2015)
Of course the only advantage is getting in CJC with 2 discount points via SNGS.
After consultation with both parents, our DD submitted her choices for Express in the following order:
CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls' School
Cedar Girls' Secondary School
Singapore Chinese Girls' School
Crescent Girls' School
Anderson Secondary School
CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh) -
RE: 2015 Request for Advice on Selecting Secondary Schools
tankee:
Just to add, even if COP for this cohort is 239, only some but not all students with score of 239 will get into the school, depending on the decimal place in order of merit.PK123:
Can I ask a basic question. The COP of 239 means that students with score of 239 will get admission of only greater than 239 will get admission
The PSLE score of the child who takes up the last place in a school will become that school's \"Cut-off Point\" (COP).
Do note that the COPs published in the secondary one posting booklet by MOE are last years' COP, meant to be used as a guide \\ indicative for this year's COP. COP will fluctuate. -
RE: All About T-Score
GreenA:
The normal curve is only used for sampling while T-score is computed from the population's data i.e. using the scores of the entire cohort for each subject to compute the mean and standard deviation for the subject. The 50th percentile of students will get a T-score in the region of 200. For express, the cut-off is 188, hence the percentage is higher than 50%.Hi! parents,
I have some questions regarding T-score:
If I understand correctly, T-score is statistic value. It is assumed that the distribution of pupils score is a Gaussian Normal Distribution.
The formula is:
Subject score = 50 + 10 * (Raw score - Mean) / Standard-Deviation
We can call the part (Raw score - Mean) / Standard-deviation Sigma, which is defined in statistic.
So that we can write as follow:
Subject score = 50 + 10 * Sigma
T-score = summation of Subject Score of all four subjects
Therefore, suppose a pupil's T score is 260. His average subject score is 260 / 4 = 65
Sigma value is (65 - 50)/10 = 1.5
Check the Standard Normal Distribution table, area below sigma 1.5 is
0.5 + 0.4332 = 0.9332
That means: a child with T-score of 260 stands at 93.32% of his cohort.
Each and every year, regardless of Mean and Standard Deviation, a child of 260 T-score stands at same place of 93.32%.
However, from this year's discussion, I come to understand that the EESIS was offered to top 3% of pupil. And each year, the cut off point for EESIS is different:
2013: 258
2012: 263
2011: 261
2010: 260
if the the cut off point of EESIS does points to top 3%, then it is contrary to my above calculation.
Does this means the PSLE result is actually not a normal distribution? Or is there anything wrong with my interpretation of the T-score.
Awaiting for comments. Numbers do not add up. It is really puzzling. -

RRRGG:
:thankyou:
What so bad about running culture? I believe it is just normal jogging which is good for young people. Although Cedar is famous for their track n field but not everyone is an athlete. (Can someone from Cedar confirm it?) Personally, I will go for Cedar as it will lead to VJC which is one of the top tier JC.
Where as SNGS is leading to an unproven new JC. One advantage is that it is in Bisham which is nearer to your house.
You should go down to Cedar to talk to the teacher/students as I heard n read alot good comments on that school.
With the new DTL2 connecting with NE line, you may also want to try NJC which has an mrt station right in front of the school.
Same thought that Cedar is a better choice compare to SNGS. Still a personal preference.
The problem I have now is how to convince a 12 year old.
There are several Bidadari BTO sites starting construction next year near to Cedar.
