• RE: 2021 PSLE Discussions and Strategies (Children born in 2009)

Hi all. Would appreciate as much advice and thoughts from you, regarding my son’s predicament. Read all the previous posts (very insightful and valuable), but did not come across anything similar to our situation so far…

He is a Singapore Citizen and scored AL9. His dream was to take the IP-IB course at ACSI (1st) then SJI (2nd), but if not, then ACSI Express, followed by SJI-Express. Unfortunately, the indicative COP for ACSI-IP is AL7 and SJI-IP is AL8. Right now, we are considering this option:

      OptionA: 1. SJI IP - COP 8, 2. ACSI Express - COP 9, 3. SJI Express - COP 10

      - Try for the slim chance that this year’s SJI IP COP = 9 and he will have priority being SC and 1st choice.
      - No point in putting ACSI IP into my selection, so ACSI Express as 2nd choice (he is willing to work hard for the opportunity of requesting to switch over to the IP track after his 2nd or 4th year).
      - But if SJI IP COP = 8 as per MOE indicative, then my dilemma starts:
      (a) What if ACS Express COP = 8 this year instead of what MOE had indicated?
      (b) What if ACS Express COP = 9 as per MOE indicative, but because he has put it as 2nd choice, he will lose out with others with AL9 who are SC and 1st choice?
© If SJI Express COP = 10 as per MOE indicative, then I understand that regardless which choice order he had put in, his AL9 would guarantee him a spot (if his earlier choices failed). But what if SJI Express COP = 9, but because he has put it as 3rd choice, he will lose out with others with AL9 who are SC and 1st or 2nd choice?

OR, after all is said and done, is it wiser just going with the following 2nd and 3rd options instead?
      OptionB: 1. ACS Express - COP 9, 2. SJI Express - COP 10
      OptionC: 1. SJI Express - COP 10, 2. ACS Express - COP 9

      Thanks in advance!

      trying hard:
      LAA2009:
29 vacancies at ACSP.

As 29 sc within 1 km registered, and 1 sc within 1 to 2 km registered, my friend in more than 2km also received call from school to rethink her options.

      Much appreciated!
Wow... if any new parent SC<1km comes in today / tomorrow to register which would result in balloting within 1km, then that would really frustrate (\"sabo\") the hell out of the 29 other parents to-date!

I don't think its call sabo. everyone can decide which sch to enrol. what if their parents was unable to take leave on the 1st 2 days? and they only can make it on the last day?
to enrol first does not mean its priority, anyone enrol before the cutoff time should be given a fair chance.
OK, point noted. I take back the word \"sabo\". Let's move on.

It is not a first come first serve system so cannot fault parents who register later lah - registering later is just a strategy to go for the school with the best odds.

Yep, true that it's not a first-come-first-served basis and some parents have this type of strategy, but it still won't help soothe the hearts of those 29 parents who may have been hoping that they won't have to go for balloting.... Just pointing out the possibility and consequences.

Just left ACSP. 29 sc registered.

      May I ask:

Do you mean that these 29 SC registered are all within 1km?

Or do you mean up to this morning, there has been a total of 29 SC who registered, regardless their distance, which matches the exact number of Phase2C vacancies and that beyond that are all PR?

      Thanks.

ACSJ (31,11,10)

      ACSP (28,0,0)
      SJIJ (23,18,19)

acsp info given above is not correct. Should be 22/1/5…all sc

      Thanks for the update!
The total of each does not match the moe results. moe reported 52 applied so far for SJIJ for 2c. Anyone know what is the breakdown?
The following is based on the info I collected after visiting these 3 schools between 3:30-4:30pm:

      ACSJ : SC = 30 <1km, 10 betw 1-2km, 9 >2km / PR = 5
      ACSP : SC = 26 <1km
      SJIJ : SC = 23 <1km

[1. Apologies for not having any further breakdown. 2. I stand corrected.]
