    • RE: Zhenghua Secondary School

Hi I have just completed the parent-teacher talk as well as the orientation campfire for 2018. I thought I might share the details of the yearly event so that parents in future intakes can easily search for the info here and use it as a reference.

Typically in the second week of school, ZH students will go for a 2.5 day camping trip which requires them to stay in school. Details will be provided by the school in the form of a letter. On the last day, there will be a campfire event where students will gather and present performances, sing the school anthem and cheer for themselves to cultivate the school spirit.

For 2018, parents arrived in school at 4:30 pm and proceeded to the Hall for a briefing on what sec school syllabus/ CCA (LEAPS) is about. Then the audience were broken up according to class and taken to classrooms to meet with the form teachers. There will be additional details given and a chance to talk to the teachers in the Q&A session. Catered dinner was served with water and packet drinks. Vegetarian food was provided as well. (Packet style, not buffet). During dinner, you may casually chat with the teachers present if you have other specific concerns.

The campfire will begin after dinner. If it is raining, there will be a mock fire in the Hall. If it is dry, I heard that a real campfire will be lit. You may find out where your child’s class is sitting before the activity begins, so that you can find a seat closer to him/ her. The activity lasts till about 9 pm.

Cash card parking is available at the HDB multistorey car park. I think early bird parents are able to find parking within the school compound, but I’m not 100% sure.

Do call the general office a day in advance to find out more about the event for your particular year. This post is only a reference so that you have a rough idea, in case the office is closed at the time of reading and you’re making last-minute schedule adjustments to be there. Enjoy!

    • RE: where to buy pretty nice good-looking glassware

Last time I had one just like the pic but a bit slimmer and taller. It came free with the olive oil I bought from NTUC. Have you tried looking at Taka/ Robinsons etc?

    • RE: Looking for Kids Shoes with Wheel

Hi everyone, just to share some of my experiences with Heelys. For learners the clones are actually better as the wheels do not spin so fast. I bought a pair of clones for my kid and we found that out by accident. The clones had a button on the back of the heel to retract the wheel. We also have a pair of larger handed-down original Heelys, and by comparison the original ones have faster wheels (technically due to the ABEC ball bearings with less resistance).

The down side is that the clones cannot withstand heavy usage. One wheel has been skated until the rubber cracked and fell off. But the good thing is that we have already mastered the thing, so got our money’s worth. I am saving up to upgrade to original Heelys because besides being faster, they can also glide for a longer distance per kick. That’s more effective if you want them to follow you around ("hey can you walk faster or not!" etc).

The price is the only thing that’s hard to swallow. I wished they had some basic no frills model around $100. My own shoes cost only $40!

    • RE: Q&A - P1 English

Everytime I am able to call the school I get the admin staff. Each of them will give me a different answer. That’s why I’m posting. Hope you all don’t mind.

    • RE: Q&A - P1 English

Paiseh everyone. Now 2:10 am still haven’t sleep, cos my kid got fixed assessment. Not sure what it is? I have found a link for show and tell, we will be preparing for it according to the tips there.

The website is kind of big, sorry if I am asking dumb questions.

      (1) listening and viewing - listen to instructions and identify pictures : how to practice for this? those that are done in class will be tested again, or completely new one will be tested?

      (2) penmenship: will this be based on those words that have been written before? or based on all the vocab and spelling words?

      (3) grammar MCQ: do i need to buy assessment books from popular to revise? my kid got no english textbook.

      (4) maths topical test - no. 1 to 10/ no. bonds: will this be similar to my pals are here workbook questions?

      (5) maths performance tasks - hands on activity - no. 1 to 10/ no. bonds: how does the test look like? any video links?

      (6) maths topical test - addition within 10/ subtraction within 10: will this be similar to my pals are here workbook questions?

I just got the letter from school. Took me by surprise. After CNY one big ang pao. I asked my kid everything also not sure.

Thanks in advance to any kind souls who can chip in.
