Hello all
Not sure parents here face the problem with children mood 's swing phase, when they are overly stress, especially for the upper primary children. One moment, they can be your best child, can see that they are coping so well, next moment, everything just goes wrong.
How do you cope with this phase, especially when there are lots of work to be completed and yet it seems too overwhelming.or there is basically not much work, just that they are not in the "study mood"
One more question, do u face problem like if allows a child to attend too many parties as in friend’s bday party and some extra fun activities, they tend to be very distracted and unfocu in their usual routine.I see this in my child.Any parents here face the same problem?
Thank you for reading.

RE: Teaching Chinese at Home
Hi Tamarind
I agreed with Brenda10, we learned alot from u.
Hi Brenda
Its never too late to start now.I can see that you are very hands on on your dd.I believe she will do very well in the psle with your close guidance.Brenda10:
Hi tamarind, I have read the 好妈妈胜过好老师 and like one of this parts: 不陪”才能培养好习惯
Therefore, when DD was back after the supplementary class at 4pm yesterday and wanted to do some other thing instead of doing homework or read a story book, I let her plan herself instead of asking/remind her the school work. She then chose to make a dress for her Barbie doll. I commended her creativity and took a photo for it. DD was very happy and done her school work and Science MCQ (from me) extremely fast than usual. After that she took a bath and enjoying her dinner with a story book and get ready for the 8pm show 食在好源 头and went to bed after the 9pm new CL show. We both were happy and I learnt to be patient, not to 一着急就替孩子做决定.
Thank you for recommend such a wonderful book.

Hi Brenda10,
You are welcome
That section also leaves a deep impression on me.
Actually this book is recommended for parents who can read Chinese newspapers easily, since the words are very small and it is a thick book, it may appear daunting to parents not used to reading in Chinese.
Hi Tamarind
Thank you.
I enjoy reading you’re input in this forum as well as your blog. You are very knowledgeable and resourceful. Unfortunately I only started explore this forum in April this year otherwise would help my dd even better. Now I’m trying to 亡羊补牢 and hopefully my dd would be a 黑马 and do well in next year PSLE CL.
-

RE: Tutor Niedino: Pri Science Questions and Concepts
Thanks.
Can I know what is the title of the book by richard paul?Niedino:
Leanne:
Hello Niedine
Thanks for clarifying .
For processing skill both needed in mcq and section b, do u have a recommended guide book for both?thank you.
Best wishes
Leanne
Well, a guidebook will suffice. Process skills have to be cultivated so questioning must become a habit. Do not discourage when your kids question. Allow the inquiry to continue and guide them in their thinking so that when they face a problem seemingly unsolvable, they will be equipped to handle them. You may want to take a look at some critical thinking books e.g. Richard Paul to help you understand reasoning better. -

Hi MOE H, Leanne & Vanilla,
Just to clarify, the emphasis on Primary Science is on process skills, especially with the content reduction in the new syllabus. Hence, it is important to teach your children to identify the types of thinking needed. For a list of thinking processes, you may refer to the Science
syllabus.
From the questions you have posted Vanilla, I assume that your child has difficulty with inference and deductive questions. Here's the thinking that should be going on in your child's mind when attempting the question.
E.g. Why did the predators decrease more than the aphids? Perhaps they are not the predators of aphids. Perhaps the habitat is not suitable for them. (MOE H, they might be eating each other so it's not impossible)
E.g Why did the leaf not have bubbles? Perhaps the stomata is blocked? The leaf might have been plucked sometime ago and cannot photosynthesize.
E.g what makes the insecticide work? The water is contaminated so how does that get into the food?
Inferring is basically a series of intelligent
guesses based on the knowledge given in the question.
Leanne, the equation is very simple and there are no molecular quantities, it's just to prepare the pupils
Hope this helps
