we just came back from universal orlando and Disneyworld.

while we were there, only US had early admission.

actually IOA no need early admission as forbidden journey wait time was around 20-30mins the whole day.

only gringots wait time increased very fast. after the first 15 mins of AA, it climbs to >45mins. minions wait time in the first 1-2 hours still quite decent.

      Hi LegoMan,

Just to check - so early admission is only to USF and not IOA? We'll be staying onsite.

      Thank you šŸ˜„

best to check with the front desk when you check in. they might change

      Hi Legoman,

Did you stay on-site Universal Studio Resort? Do you mean even if the express passes, you still have to wait 45min or 1-2 hrs?!

early admission is only for onsite guests.

when I was there the park opens for early admission at 7am.

the harry potter rides do not have express passes. The other rides have.

I reach there around 6.50, I can ride gringotts with abt 20min wait time. when I reach there around 7.10, the wait time increases to around 45 mins.

I think 34 is the right number. 2 years ago, there were more than 40. NYPS may take in more than 100. My ds's class has 26 students.

I am quite puzzled that many GEP students have to stay back many days in the school as my ds never stayed back for any GEP curriculum or projects for the past two years. :?

Hi 8228, how is your DS coping ?
is there a lot of competition ?
Is it hard to be picked as one of those involved in the CCAs and activities like prefects, maths olympaid, etc ?

      Thanks

My ds (P5 this year) is definitely not one of the shiniest but he has been coping quite well so far, a bit of struggling for project deadline in P4 though. He is not strong in EL too.

He took part in AMC, NMOS, UNSW but he did not really spend too much time for preparation except doing some past year papers before the competitions. I plan to let him practise during the coming holiday to prepare for RIPMWC and SMOPS next year to increase his chance for DSA.

For maths olympiad like NMOS, RIPMWC and SMPOS, I think every student is free to take part but I am not sure what the crtiteria are for joining Advanced Maths CCA. Sorry, I had no idea about the selection of prefects but I heard P4 GEP students transferred from other schools are not encouraged to be one as they are new to the school environment.[/quote]
      Thanks for yr reply.

Good luck to your son. šŸ™‚

Why is there the need to stand out and shine? Anyway, there is no ranking in GEP class.

Would think if all in class are so good, your kid can't shine and can't get as high marks for presentation, projects, assignments etc. This affects marks and he may not meet some important DSA criteria etc min 80% for exemption of GAT etc etc. And, so far from other KSPs in DSA thread, seems tt during DSA, kids are ranked by results down to decimal :nailbite: Also, too many ultra shiny classmates, lower chance to be chosen for leadership (prefect, monitor etc) positions or special activity šŸ˜“

Yes, that's my thoughts exactly. and not just that, all the competitions/CCAs will be taken up by the shiniest students, so those \"average\" GEPers might miss out, which might rob them of valuable experience.

There might be \"invisible\" pressure to keep up too, will too many bright kids in the class.

Anyone with GEPers in NY ?

    • RE: GEP 2011 - Screening & Selection

      Hi all,

My son managed to qualify for GEP and now we have a tough decision on which school to choose.

Nanyang is one of the nearest to our house but heard it is quite competitive. Also with so many GEP kids, harder for your child to stand out and shine.

Does anyone have any experience with Nanyang GEP ?

Other choices are Rosyth, which is much further from our house, but looks to have very interesting CCAs, and ACS, but slots are limited.
