RE: CHIJ Family of Schools
hi
Just wonder what is the chance of getting into CHIJ Toa Payoh? My parents is staying at Towner, Near Boon Keng MRT station. But i have check one map & its more than 2km from CHIJ Toa Payoh.
Should i use my parents' address to enrol my daughter into this or should i just stick to enrolling my daughter in CHIJ Kellock (since we are staying near bt merah) & transfer school later?
Thanks for any advise..... -

hi,
you mention that you are interested in seeking Transfer into CHIJ St Nicholas primary ?lindyc:
hi,
i'm planning to register my girl to CHIJ Kellock in P2C. What are the chances of getting a place if i am more than 2km?
I would also like to check how to go about transfering between CHIJ primary school & what is the requirement?
Note that, if your child intend to Transfer into St Nick, at the end of Primary 2 :-
We don't look at the 2 subjects, (English & Maths) only.
As St Nick is a SAP school, the first subject we look at, is your Chinese results.
Preferably or ideally, your daughter would have taken Higher Chinese, in P1 and P2, before.
In St Nick, Chinese is an important subject, we emphasize upon.
Reason being:
Higher Chinese is challenging, in Upper primary (P5 & P6 years).
So, if a child's foundation in Chinese at lower primary is already weak / poor / shaken, at (P1 & P2) :
imagine what kind of struggle the student will get into, as she progress higher up the level, in school.
Another point to take note of, is :-
the highest or the greatest number of vacancies that arise for Transfer into St Nick arise, at the end of Primary 2.
Reason being :-
At end of P2, going up into P3, from 30 students per P2 class, now class status has been changed : to become 40 students, per P3 class. Hence able to absorb or take in more new students now, from other primary schools, who newly joined, via Transfer.
Since vacancies had already been snapped up readily at the end of P2, when come to P3 :-
the number of vacancies start to dwindle or diminish; thus making Transfer-in a slimmer chance now, unless there happen to be some P3 students who are offered GEP programme, after they managed to clear two round of GEP tests, and parents had attended the GEP briefing at NUS High, and had also chosen / decided to exit out of St Nick, transfer into a GEP centre (P4 to P6). Yes, vacancies then arise, at end of P3, under such scenario.
On the other hand, there are also a few P3 girls who, although had been offered GEP by MOE, declined to accept the offer, chose to remain in St Nick (Mainstream) instead, and continued to do very well at PSLE, as well as in their Cca, role and responsibilities, assigned by school.
Does P1 & P2 do Higher Chinese? Is it only certain primary school have it?
I'm not so worry about my girl's Chinese. She has the interest in it beside English & Maths....
Thanks floppy & phtthp for the information on this....
i still think i would give it a try for the transfer when times comes and see how things goes... -

Very safe so far for citizens.
Depends on which CHIJ primary school you are targeting for the transfer. Usually, high Band 1 results for all subjects at P1 and P2, or talent in their niche CCAs would stand you in good stead.
thanks Cherrygal for the information.
Can i say the transfer of CHIJ primary is only available in P3 onwards? i'm looking at either CHIJ TYP or St. Nick. Do they take into consideration of the home address? -
