Mom of 3 boys:
My dear son #1 will be starting his Sec 1 in VS IP.

1) are there restrictions on the sort of school shoes that can be worn? Can he wear white New Balance track shoes ( for example)?
2) how much is reasonable daily allowance at this level?
3) we live in the west - what is the normal expected time that his day will end in school? He has 3rd language and most likely 2 CCAs
4) Anyone can share tips and what to expect for new Sec 1 boy going to VS IP ?

Appreciate anything that can be shared as I realised there is quite limited info as this is a new pro for the school.
1. not so strict on school shoes, ds wears new balance tennis shoes with 30% black in color
2. most of the meals are below $2, so $3/meal with drinks is enough, but the boys will have their lunch in school most of the days.
3. dismissal varies 1pm-3.30pm, 3rd lang is on monday, some CCA may end as late as 6pm.
4. lots of project works in group or individual, often meet up on weekends to do projects, core subjects are quite manageable.
Does anyone know the dismissal time this Friday? Is there CNY celebration?

Hi publica, my son said it is 1230pm. I ask him to double check as we intend to go out for cny final shopping. Regards.

My son in 1J, he said 1230pm too:)
He didn't get his first choice library and second choice Scouts. He went to Choir , his third choice. Choir is on every Thurs and Sat but his Malay Special Programme is also Thurs, any idea how to appeal ?
Thanks
My son got into Band as he has ABRSM cert in clarinet.
How do you know the schedule for Choir? Is the cca schedule shown on the school website updated? The teacher in charge said that there will be twice a week for performing arts for Sec1. Not sure if there will be more when they go Sec2.

Hi parents

Have your boys submitted the CCA selection forms. They were supposed to have handed in by 9th Jan - but my son still has them. Says no one has asked for them. Not sure if they are supposed to iniate these things themselves.

Thanks in advance.
I thought they are supposed to hand in the cca form by 12th Jan.

Hi rylee,

Which class is your son in? Mine is in 1J.

Hi publica,

My son in 1I. As per the sec 1 Orientation schedule (6-13 Jan) http://vs.moe.edu.sg/temp11/2012%20Sec%201%20Orientation%20Week%20%28Student%29.pdf

Looks like 1H, 1I and 1J need to report to VJC next Tuesday.

Regards.
On Tuesday, do the boys go straight to VJC in the morning or go to VS first?
The principal of Victoria School mentioned during today's orientation that they do not have any vacancy despite a long waiting list.

Hi publica,

I missed the 29th dec VS orientation as we were on oversea holiday. Can let me know any interesting update from the new principal?

Thanks.

Hi rylee,

I was not present but my husband mentioned that there's not much update besides camp briefing, how to choose CCA and part of the time taken up by PSG, which we signed up for 4 years. The boys went to their respective classes to meet the teacher. Maybe parents who were present can add on.
For parents with boy in IP track....
The P was formally VP from RI. One of the VP was a HOD from NYGH, and another VP was from VJC. So this is to assure parents on its integrated program.

On PE days, can the boys wear PE tshirt/short to school, or bring to change?

The boys are not allowed to wear PE tshirt/shorts to school as they have to attend a 'formal' morning assembly. It's only allowed in special circumstances, e.g. camps, cross-country etc.

ok thanks.

last year, 1D and 1F are stretch class and students with tscore at least 250 above. 1L is MEP class.

DD not in the MEP, so 1D is not a MEP class this year. As for stretch class, will only know during meet the parent session on Fri evening. :scratchhead:

School will not tell you which is stretch class. But you could notice the tscore of the students which are higher. Also stretch classes will have more program than others.

Do student class posting according to their T-score? There should be one class doing MEP.

My DD posted to 1D.
