• RE: Maris Stella High School

      Hi Claire,

We did not attend the open house. Anyway PSLE results already released, my child did not score well too. Quite disappointed for a while as he did well in his prelims, hoping that he may do well in Sec 1 and request for a transfer to Maris Stella.

Well, any one has experience transferring to another sec school using the sec one results? I heard if attained 70% for overrall subjects, we may do so. Is it true?

      Please advise.

      Thank you

      Hi lovethekids
Did you eventually go to the open house at Maris Stella on saturday ? We went and my child is quite impressed by their innovative MACbook one-to-one learning during curriculum time.
We've advised him that there are alot of other factors to consider while choosing a school. We are not near Maris Stella and distance is therefore one of the considerations for us. However, he is still very keen, but I suppose we'll all have to wait for the PSLE results to be released before he decides making any final decision.
      Hi Tianzhu,
We have seen how the MACbook is being used as part of the classroom curriculum , and it's indeed \"appealing\" to the students as children nowadays are really drawn towards IT/Infocomm technology. I agree with you that some families may have problem getting the child a MACbook. But I think in such cases, the school might help those who are in need.

Wishing all our children the best with the PSLE results.

    • Pei Hwa Secondary School

      Hi All Parents,

Any comments on Pei Hwa Secondary School? Has browsed through their website, the Pionner batch \"O\" level students did quite well in 2008.

Can anyone share with you more about this school?

      Thank you

      Janice,

So far I have not heard any bad about compassvale sec. I have few neighbours children studying in this school, they are quite well-behaved.

I did give a thought of choosing this school if my child aggregate is below 220 as it is near my house too.

      lovethekids :?

Any comments on this school please? It's just beside my house!
• RE: Secondary Schools - Northeast

      Hi Janice,

Dont worry about your child standard, you may have got the aggregate from his prelim results. I remembered five years ago, my son aggregate was below 230 too, however when his PSLE reults was out, it was above 230!

But word of caution, NC MT is of great high standard as I personally has gone through the papers with my son during his sec days.

Cheersโ€ฆ Let us pray hard for our children as my second child is waiting for PSLE results tooโ€ฆ

      Thanks

Thanks. I know NC is one of the best Sec in SK but my child standard is below 230 :-((
Hi Janice,

I find that Nan Chiau High is good as my elder son has already graduated from there last year. The discipline in this school is strict. Their academic results for the "O" level had been raised from Band 9 to Band 3 this year.

      Thanks

      Hello hopeful4future,

I am a newly joined member, was currently looking for English enrichment or rather tuition for my son sec one next year.

Can I have your nephew tutor contact?

      Thank you

      hopeful4future:
Hello Huang, Thought i should share my experience... My nephew also face the same problem when he entered sec school as its really a big difference from primary school. He got in touch with a tutor who taught him the right methods and showed some improvement.

Actually for languages he should also read up a lot. Does your son read? Maybe its the tutor's way of teaching. The tutor my nephew had gave him a lot of practices and had good tips on essay writing. She focus on forming his ideas and gave him reading materials to supplement. She is quite effective, and said its impt cos in JC they will have general paper. i can pm you the contact for her if you want.

Maybe your son should try to read more, it will help for languages.. How is he doing in mother tongue? ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm really quite afraid of my kids entering secondary school cos of the big jump, so i'm trying to do all i can to secure their foundation in languages now  so far for english they are ok but their mandarin grades are very poor! ๐Ÿ˜ž

      Cheers and good luck ๐Ÿ™‚

p.s. i pm-ed you this earlier, but realise i should post it up ๐Ÿ˜‰
