I believe the syllabus is tough for these kids. The Maths syllabus incorporates Sec 3 and Sec 4 stuff at year 2… really it is not easy…sometimes i really feel bad for the kids…at 255 psle scores they are supposed to be the top 10% of each cohort, but it does not mean that they will necessarily perform well under any type of school with any type of program…
the IP in DHS and that of RV and RGs/Ri and HCi, are they all the same?
Augmum,do you have any insight? Besides different computation for GPA, what else is different between them that you are aware of?
My gal’s form teacher said that as DHS does not have mid year examinations, some students actually are not used and trained to bear the stress and pressure faced to complete so many questions for Maths within a longer time frame.
Which then makes me wonder maybe they should have SA1 as well. What about the other IP schools, do they have SA1?

RE: Dunman High School (Junior High)
Hi augmum,
my girl has always been strong in her english so she is keen to take double sci and double humanities from day one. we are still contemplating but very likely will take this. she isn’t very strong in her maths… i am afraid physics will be tough for her too.
Yes, her History T has left.hewas rather inspiring to her class. she did pretty well for history. I wrote an email to her form teacher asking about maths. if the paper was tough etc but as usual, MOE teachers are very good at “taiji”. avoided my question totally. Gal says that last year’s maths paper was easier and that last yr’s cohort for IP2 seems to perform better than this current IP2 cohort. but i think it is unfair for us to keep comparing. the papers aren’t the same, the standard can’t be the same too… -

Hi Augmum,
how are you? i have not been following the thread…is nothing2do still active?
anyway from next year onwards, our kids’ grade will be L1R5… that means at least one humanities is required for computation of score. my DD says that many of her friends are thinking of going for 2 sci and 2 humanities now…did your dd tell you anything like this?
wonder if there will be 13 triple sci classes next year… -
RE: Dunman High School (Junior High)

RE: Dunman High School (Junior High)
So far she seems to be doing better in sciences than her humanities so i thought she should go for triple science. but she says she does not really like physics so think likely to take both humanities and 2 sciences. she will definitely take literature cos she likes it. so it is between history and geography.
will let her decide herself. afterall, she is the one studying!
i spoke to her history teacher on Parent teacher meeting day. he does not appear very approachable…stern looking type. Probably why she did not really communicate much with him outside school hours… maybe she should do that more and clarify any of her doubts. so did not do very well in this subject cos she is not giving what the teacher wants in her work. anyway, told her to work this out with the teacher herself. Just thought of getting her books or resource materials, at most what I can do to help.
As for geography, I reckoned she is not memorising enough. lack of content i think. will see if she changes her mind for subject combinations later. Yours going for triple science? -
RE: Dunman High School (Junior High)
same here. I have my hands full guiding the younger one and am not so involved in her studies now…
but I have a qn to ask, hope you can help me… how does your child prepare history and geography? do her teachers guide the class well? so as suggests them to read papers, look out guide books, go on line to read up? I am just wondering how to score these 2 subjects without really putting in too much effort…
thanks once again for your help -
RE: Dunman High School (Junior High)
Thanks. Think my gal has not gotten back the last LA paper taken on the day b4 the date of the parent teacher meeting. She mentioned that her teacher will only return it when the new term begins… She thought the score for this paper will only be included in next term’s LA score. not sure if this is correct. But I expect them to bring them their progress report book these few days…
