I am shocked that only 14 out of 1,100 are awarded. Isn't it too little? I am sure there are many good teachers who deserve recognition too. Also it's held once in 2 years. Shouldn't it be an annual affair?

Why can't MOE do more for the teachers as teachers play a very important role in shaping the lives of our children.

Indeed! It didn't cross my mind that the number of award winners is very small. I feel that as long as the teacher is nominated by a substantial number of people related to his school, he should be a winner.
So 'stinge' to select only 14.

No point being in the top JC but feeling miserable all the time because it's difficult to cope n have no friends. Such feelings are very negative n will affect his/her A level performance. DS told me that his friend has gone to VJC but very miserable because he can't fit into the culture. He dreads waking up every morning to drag his feet to school. I don't know how he is going to do in his A levels this year.

So parents, pls see whether your child's character suits the JC - it's better to have a good fit. More importantly, think of your child's happiness in that 2 years of JC life. A happy child will perform better even if it's not the top JC.

A wise piece of advice indeed. We do not have to live up to others' expectations and submit to the pressure of meritocracy and lead a miserable life. Do not 'fight' as the world 'fights' but to fight for our own happiness. Behind a happy child, there is a happy parent and vice-versa.

So far, the only complain I heard from DS is that there isn't any Chinese Drama Club in IJC that he used to enjoy participating during his sec sch days in a SAP school. He misses the time when speaking mandarin in school doesn't make him sound odd but I've heard that this is the norm in most JCs.

Hi luvpsalm, :offtopic: since I'm not in IJC/YJC, but quite interestingly, after I have entered JC, I've had the opportunity to speak more Mandarin in school with classmates and friends. I come from a SAP Secondary school where (strangely) very few people (aside from the PRC scholars) speak Mandarin on a regular basis even though the school supposedly promotes Chinese culture & language.

Despite the fact that IJC pupils do not converse in mandarin, I realised that the passing rate for 2015 A level H2 CLL is 100%.
The recent results also showed that 44% had obtained either an A or B for its H1 CL.
It may fall pale in comparison with other better ranked JCs but I am an easily contented fella.

Anywhere but PJC. DD has a terrible experience there, glad she is out now. School only interested in their own glory instead of the students welfare. Just look at how many students got reported in this year A Level result released.... school called reporters so the P can be gloried. You mean other school no such students???

I am sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with PJC. In fact I was very touched by the newspaper report about the boy from a poor family. I saw your post about a local uni course you are looking at for your DD. At least she qualifies for local uni courses. I wish her success in her next endeavour and leave her unhappy experience behind.

I think people like him who have been thru hardship will do very well in their careers as they have developed mental toughness at a young age.

Will he stand a chance to get scholarship for university? If I were to own a big company, I would most willingly support him through the full uni course without any bond attached.

From school web site RVHS-3 H2 Distinction didnt show include pass in GP is 32.06%.
NYJC- 3 Dist'n include pass in GP is 31%.

I am not sure but if ijc passing rate in GP is 93%, I am certain that the stat shown in rvhs website includes a pass in gp.
