Yes agreed with u.
I personally feel that if the tutor is good and highly experienced, I will definitely not paying more. It may be unfair to use the market rate that we found online to tell the tutor how much he or she should charge as every tutor, even with the same degree and years of experience, has different teaching capability. If one is uncomfortable with the fees, one can always just find another tutor, no hard feeling.
Have tried more than 10 tutors previously.
I feel many are charging exorbitant rate becos they were able to deliver and got students in waiting.
But I have tried cheaper like $30-$35 per hour. Hmmm not say cannot teach, but don't seem to see improvements after like 1 year. Some of them can see some improvement but got hard questions can't solve.
Doesn't mean MOE trained means isgood. A lot depends on the teaching ability of the teacher.
If want experienced ones, be prepared to pay higher than normal averages tutors. Best to get referral from your friends, school mates etc. -

Nowadays home 1-1 tuition is not cheap. I’m paying $45 per hr for pri n $55 per hr for sec.
Not MOE teachers hor, but at least I’m satisfied with my children’s results. -

HCL in sec is very tough and it is not easy esp if kids need to manage closed to 10 subjects.
I am not sure if this has been asked before.
For kids who didn't take hcl in pri sch, can they take up hcl in sec sch if they get good results for psle overall and OK for Chinese?
It is a dilemma. Child scored 80 to 85 for Chinese in p4. In p1 to p3, she scored above 90. But she doesn't read Chinese books at all. We used to read to kids sometimes but now it is getting harder as kids are more inclined to the books they like. Child read English story books ferociously. Thinking if I shld sign her up w Chinese class to help her maintain her score as we can tell she is slipping, or invest in her area of interest instead, which means omitting a few good sec schs in our area as her choice of schs, which happens to be sap schools. Eg nan hua and RV.
She got 18 out of 40 for her Chinese compo in this year p5 term 1. She used to score 16 to 19 out of 20 in Chinese compo.
Parents whose kid has decided to forego hcl, can share your views? Asked child if she wants Chinese class, she is not keen. Before March, she has quite a few extra stuff from sch so cannot find time anyway. But she is quite free now, sigh.
Or time is better spent in things she is keen at such as writing class or continue to let her read?
Got her to sit in for the trial masterclass for English writing for psle yesterday. Asked her if she wants to join for the regular class, she is not keen.
Unless she is really very interested in Chinese else gonna to struggle. -
