i was at the pri3-4 talk and hence, not much elaboration on HCL.but this round at least he didn’t discourage opt in of HCL. He briefly mentioned that all subj must b above 75

To qualify for HCL in p5. He also did emphasize that with the sch rich Chinese history, they encourage kids to learn the language but gotta balance w core subjects.

Hopefully by banding kids on subject, they need not have to move around classes. They did not share how it is going to operationalize.

Eunice, we are thinking about the same thing. I also remember what Mdm Ler said and thought it was strange that less than 50% of our current P4 will be taking HCL next year. It is supposed to be a stronger cohort. Given that we are also a SAP school, I thought more students should be taking HCL but again, I know new p is not really supportive of this HCL. I heard in P5/P6 level briefing, he was trying hard to sell the idea that HCL is not important, explaining to parents how the additional points [quote]

I attended the lower pri talk too. He also keep elaborating on the HCL and drop obvious hints that HCL will only benefit those who are going to the top sec (which in my opinion is not wrong). He mentioned that students should focus on the core subjects rather than fuss on HCL. Which make sense too... but than again, as a chinese sch with rich Chinese history, he should be encouraging students to excel in Chinese and give a more motivational speech rather than discouraging them to choose HCL. Especially the talk I went is meant for lower Primary. MY kid hear already super happy.. zzz
He kept emphasizing we should not label a child and every child’s should be given a chance hence, the reason why he is not going to stream the class. But seems like he is not taking the chance where it comes to HCL. He also said something along the line like ...parents got to work with him and trust him with his experience in education...

This year exemplary result should be the hard work / KPI of the previous P.

In fact to actually see the result of current changes, should be year 2019 psle onwards. Can’t imagine :roll:

When there is a change of empire, the new empire will want to proof that the previous one is flawed, hence, their improvement is for the greater good.

With lesser homework and no Remedial means working parents got to work harder on weekend with the kids. Gone are the Real quality time we are supposed to spend with them.
They got to understand that majority of the parents are working too!
If there are no ranking of the classes, I see no reason why they cannot stay put in their current class.

I totally agree with you. Probably MORE work will be required if a survey was done. For the moving, probably the previous P will substantiate with statistics from parents and appeal to MOE for a site near school instead of amk.

This year is a great change / shock to the last practice of the sch. For AS, I thought is necessary to catch up on the subjects The sch has a much shorter curriculum timing as compared to other pri sch. PCPS generally ended sch at 12.25pm- 12.55pm latest. Most sch ended at 1.30pm. The difference if you add up is as good as 2 session of 30mins lacking from normal time. So now the poor teachers got to rush through and student grasp through the concepts. As for PTM now they limit to 20+ students only and was informed they reserve for weaker students. It seems that the sch is telling us that your kids are good enough? I thought PTM is for teachers to share the areas for your child to better improve? Even if you are top student, there should always be room for improvement right? Sch also recently informed they will ensure our kids daily homework will not take more than 1 hour per day…sch seems to send a direction for us to chill… I welcome the idea for my lower pri kid but If my child is in pri 5/6 now and an avg student, I will be kinda of worried with all these changes…In my opinion, the school seems like in a state of ‘complacent’.
