gleemom:
There is a separate thread on RGS vs NYGH in this forum. I am an ex-RGS/RJC mummy. DD went for both RGS & NYGH open house last year. DH & DD didn't like the RGS talk (too much emphasis on excellence but little to no emphasis on character dev & values). I was more partial to Rafflesian heritage of course. Anyway DD eventually didn't apply for RGS & is very happy now in NYGH. I have met the principal during the interview. Mdm Heng is direct, firm, very balanced in her views & comments, yet warm & puts both DD & I at ease. What I like in particular is she didn't put down other schools, but let the facts speak for themselves. DD has been in NYGH for almost a year. Absolutely no regrets ...and that's coming from a true-blue Rafflesian.....

Gleemom, thank you for your input. You are very eloquent

Lynn2010:

Could you share why these RGPS girls are considering NYGH over RGS? It was the other way round for past years.
I can't speak for the other girls but DD and I like NYGH much better than RGS on the Open House day and we feel a lot more comfortable with Mdm Heng. I feel that the talk in RGS was so focused on excellence all the way. There is an over emphasis on excellence and at the same time lack of emphasis on overall character development. Of course, this is my own and DH's opinions.

One of her seniors who is now in Sec 2 NYGH really enjoyed her BSE (Boarding School Experience) and DD is looking forward to that as well.

thanks margaretleong for your reply
very surprised though
are yr DD and friends are from NYPS ( if it is OK to ask ) ? and that is why they are 'die-hard' NYGH fans ?
coz I expected it to be other way round, that for those with offers from both RGS and NYGH, that more would put RGS first....

would really be great to hear views from parents with DDs in same situation ...
CO from both RGS/NYGH or with WL from NYGH + CO from RGS ...

Thanks!!
No, we are not from NYPS at all, that is why we have never heard of the wonderful Mdm Heng before this whole DSA process.

She is from RGPS. From what I hear, a lot of the her friends seriously considering NYGH. This is also the feel that I get talking from the other P6 RGPS moms as well, even those who were ex-RGS girls.

just wanna ask for views if yr DD get a CO from RGS & WL from NYGH
not sure how many are in the same situation.

appreciate all views.

thks!
DD has CO from both and she will be putting NYGH first choice.

3 of her classmates have CO from RGS & WL from NYGH, and all are putting NYGH first choice.

that is why outside talk is that Mdm Heng has a lot of pulling power .... so will continue to see high cut off point for NYGH in the coming years

she is really very capable and a well liked principal
I haven't heard of Mdm Heng before this and now that we have met her , I find her a truly outstanding and charismatic principal. I have also met the RGS principal during the Open House talk. She is, no doubt, also very capable but strikes me as a very business like lady with none of Mdm Heng's warmth and personality. I just feel more comfortable leaving my DD in Mdm Heng's hands.

DaddyDaddy:

DD got WL from NYGH, at tea session with principal this morning. She gave assurance that all with WL will be given a place so long as we put it as first choice. Really think the NYGH culture is a considerate and gentle one that even for waitlist, the principal said she does not wish to add stress and anxiety to the parents ... :celebrate:
Yes, DD and I really like Mdm Heng and we think that the NYGH culture under her leadership will be a gentler one than the culture in RGS.

Hi Cestmoi, my dd applied thru academic.

Hi vanilla mum,
Did your DD DSA for RGS as well? šŸ˜‚
Wa! u are fast! no, only let her try NYGH bcos hv the impression that RGS girls are difficult to control šŸ˜‰ sorry, no offense to DDs in RGS, just my personal view.
---------------------------------------------
Hi, I am a new mom here. My daughter was fortunate enough to be given a CO in RGS and NYGH. It looks like many of your dds are as well.

For those with COs from both school, may I know which one is your daughter likely to choose ? We thought we like RGS but after talking to a lot of people, researching forums, talking to old girls and going to both schools open house and listening to both principals talk, we and dd are quite sure she will to go NYGH.

I saw the posting of Gleemom and another mom (both RGS girls) here on why their own girls are going NYGH - it's a pretty good testimony for us: http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=12662&start=150

What's your take ? Which school would you like your girl to go to ?
