Just to share my two cents worth.
My Burmese maid has been with me for 3 and half years. with no experience and limited English. We basically communicated with her using sign language and labelling our stuff. She picked up rather fast and now she can speak better. Personal hygiene is fine with me. But ever since having long hair, she starts to take a very long 30 min shower. She does do an "ok" job with cleaning. But when comes to fragile or valuable objects, I would recommend that they do not handle. Mine broke a few table top glass and utensils. Feedback from my friend who had one too, hers cracked her granite table top and floor tiles.
Maybe after working long here, they will change and start to take things for granted.
She thinks herself as part of our family and feels like she is an equal. She will pull a long face when we tell her that we want things done our way, not hers. Not only that, she starts show disrespect to us. e.g. when she doesn’t get her off day or we don’t bring her out, she will sulk or give us a black face.
We try to give in as we understand that she loves our kids. But her behaviour is sometimes really out of hand.
