Hey guys, I had contacted an agency to hire a New Philipino maid, they had given me their numbers & asked me to call myself. Its a bit weird isnt it, plus their fee is about $1600++ all in. Any suggestions??

Charging $1600 but no budget to give international calls to client!

Yeah it's weird because other agencies arrange the interviews y this agency don't.
My agency charges $588 but does everything through email eg. they email me biodatas. Interviews also I call myself or use viber. If the helper does not have viber, I talk to the overseas agent direct also through viber. To me its ok so I don hve to make my way down to the office to interview. And I don need to sit there and go through piles of biodatas and in the end nothing.

I remember one time I went to Lucky plaza and walked into 4-5 agencies and sat down and ran through all the biodatas and nothing. Went home more drained..so when I came across this agency and based on my requirements emailed me everything...wah easier for me. But when they asked me to call myself I was puzzled also. haha..but I don mind buying a Pinoy IDD card only $8.50 and personally call from comfort of my home to interview them.

If you go to netmaid.com.sg, you will see alot of biodatas there too and if you find one you like, you can call up the agency that reps them.Very informative!

      chryl4parents:
When one of my sons, age 10 years then asked me, \"Mum, what do you want me to be when I grow up?\" He was expecting me to say, a doctor or lawyer. I took the question seriously and thought about it before I replied. I said, \" I want you to be Happy\". He said,\"No mum, really, what do you want me to be?\". My reply was, \"Happy\". I explained that it may sound so simple but it could be a tall order! He needed to do and be what ever made him happy. He is now doing his second year uni and guess what he is 'Happy'. He never forgot what I said. The question, What's the purpose of Life and my answer has not changed. It is to be 'happy'. It is our expectations and never being satisfied that keeps us away from 'happiness'.

      100% agree!

    • RE: Compensation on maid off day

Maybe your helper has nowhere to go or not that many friends thats why she doesnt want to go off. My helper is with me for 5 years and she still under old WP rules. Currently I give her off 2 times a month. Next year renew her WP I have to give her off every week. I did ask her if she wants to go off every week next year and she said \"Where to go??\" LOL! She has friends but she is quiet and prefers to stay home. She said go anywhere also crowded esp Orchard/Lucky plaza :yikes:

Actually new ruling is only enforced when Work permits are issued in year 2013 onwards. So if your maid is under old contract (prior to 2013) its the same till work permit expires. Only when you renew her WP from 2013 onwards then new rules are enforced. Thats why most helpers now prefer to restart with new employers from year 2013 onwards so they have off day weekly.

The option to compensate them for their off days is whether the employer need them or not on their off days. If not I don't see y employers should compensate even if employer willing to give off days.

I am confuse about situation whereby my help want to stay home and work, and I want her to go out and play. What is the guideline?

Maybe you have to compromise with her instead. There are 4 Sundays usually in a month so she can have 2 weeks alternate off and 2 Sundays to work and you compensate her???

MOM leaves it to the employer and FDW to negotiate how the off day is required. They wont tell you what you should do. They always say the employer and maid must have mutual understanding and agreement.

Can some parents share if is compulsory to have swimming lessons for P2 or P3 students?

      Thank you.
Hi Yen, I clarified with my daughter's teacher and she said there is a requirement that kids has to go through a swimmers programme in P2. However if your kid is already learning private swimming parents only need to provide a written letter to confirm that.

    • RE: De La Salle

Does anyone know if its compulsory to have swimming cert by P2 or P3? Right now my kid is learning swimming by private instructor. I am thinking if should let her do as CCA but if so she cant do Modern Dance which she wants. I read they only encourage 1 CCA per student. If its not compulsroy to have a swimming cert then I will let her skip swimming totally. She is only doing it cos I was told must have swimming cert by P3. She cant swim like a fish so I would be relieved if donhave to do swimming. Anyone can advise?

Good to know u r ok now. šŸ˜„

Yah, good to teach daughter to be more careful next time n learn to protect herself n her things well; the world can be very cruel with lots of ppl waiting to take advantage of others - cannot b running to mummy or daddy to fight their life battle all the time.

I remember teaching my children to always be respectful of ppl, their property and ppl's time, and not to get into fights or use violence. But on the side, I arranged for their Godpa (whose my brother) to tell them to hit back should anyone bully or box them first. :nunchuk: Hahaha. A bit hypocritical but that's life - one has to learn to fight if need to. :scared:
LOL! Wah - this is called side lesson.... haha

Agree. Its like sugar and spice. Be respectful and nice and polite but if kena bully too much - cannot keep quiet already. My girl is very soft. Always kena bully eg. kick, beaten by more aggressive kid. She comes back crying and each time I tell her forgive forgive and stay away from that kid. Until one day I cannot tahan. Kena punch near the eye. Thats when I finally decided enough is enough. Went to confront the mom and told her after 8 months of bullying thats the last straw! If her kid damaged her eye how is she going to give her back one eye? Then finally the bullying stopped!

Ok let me give a better picture.........

So should i be fuming mad or not over her attitude? How can I possibly ask for Term 1 list when I told her I need for the next 2 week's spelling test? :stompfeet: :stompfeet: :stompfeet:

Thanks Maxine for the sharing. I understand better now. Hope things r better now for u. Anyway, smile šŸ˜‚ n hv a great weekend :rahrah: Next week will b a better week!

Yes force2, the day has passed and today I am ok. I decided that I can ask the parents here for help with missing stuff again but will emphasise to my daughter also to be more responsible and make sure her classmates don take her things away.

Thanks for the cheering up! :rahrah:
