• RE: NUS High School of Mathematics and Science (Diploma)

Does it happen this year? Or last year?

      rollypoly:
Hi parents. I just wanted to say that your child doesn't need an A* for both Mathematics and Science or a PSLE Aggregate of 260+ to get admitted into NUS High. Those are just rumours. My son got a PSLE Aggregate of 256 (with an additional 2 points for Higher Chinese if he wishes to attend SAP schools) and only got an A for Science (he got an A* for Mathematics though) but he still got admitted into NUS High through SIE (Supplementary Intake Exercise).

Hi parents, does P5 results 90 above on average stand for a good chance for DSA?
My son is currently in P4. He passed round 1 of GEP screening last year but didn't get through the 2nd round. We subsequently discovered that he does test in the gifted range, in particular in maths & science related areas. Are there any books used by GEP that might be useful for him to expand his knowledge and stop his never-ending refrain of \"I'm bored\".

I recommend the \"Murderous Maths\" series of books as fun reading material.

      Don't forget Horrible Science too.
Tell you a secret, real GEP never read those books in so called \"GEP\" rec list. LOL

And GEP is a joke. There is a so called Creative Writing Programme organized by this GEP branch every yeasr. My first child two years ago failed to be selected. This year my second child used the same essay to get selected.

To score 80% means the knowledge and skill have been mastered. To score 100%, u need to do many exercises. Some choose to spend time on that some choose not. But seems you have to if u wish to excel in sg system

wonder if it is possible to get a distinction at young age, e.g. preschooler? coz I wanna let my younger one try but afraid he cannot achieve it as this one is fairly kiasu type. ]

Distinction for grade 5 theory or grade 1 theory? You are talking about preschooler - means 4-6 years of age?

Grade 1 theory - possible lah. Even grade 2 or 3. Not that much studying required if the preschooler is familiar. But grade 5 is not that easy at that age. For preschoolers, handwriting itself is a challenge.
