RE: Kheng Cheng
hi all,
I am looking at registering my son in KC. Would appreciate any feedback from mummies on how is the sch? Culture and environment? How are the teachers in the school? Also, if for those staying beyond 2km, hows the chances of getting into 2C without any balloting? -

Dear memories,
Yes, my boy is in 2012 year and the school has called us to inform that there is a vacancy. The principal gave us the tour and we both like the environment so will very likely enrol him next year. Which session will your boy in? Mine is the afternoon session so they may be future classmates
hee, good.. my boy will be in morning session.. Receive the letter from school that there will be orientation. See you there on 7 Oct.
Hi Memories
With regards to your comments on Ascension, may I know if you boy is taking the school bus? How is it? I am considering of enrolling my boy to their N1 class next year but I am not sure if he is too young for the school bus.
Hi, there will be a bus auntie to look after the kids on the bus. Teachers are around to guide the children up the bus safely. And I think the bus uncle will enforce the children to buckle up too. Importantly is, will ur child cry on bus, will he or she accidentally pee on bus. Otherwise I think the short distance is okay. I saw a n1 girl crying loudly because she refuse to board the bus. Uncle had no choice but to call the parents. If u opt for sch bus, makes life easier for u. The traffic can be very heavy during peak hours.
The sch is also accepting children born towards end of year. My son is a nov Bb and one of the youngest in class. If u can, toilet train ur child. It will be easier. Eventually towards term 3, teachers will want the kids to learn how to pull down to pee, wipe up and pull up.
Only thing I wish they can change is the menu…if every term different meals would be good.
Are u looking at morning or afternoon session?
Thanks for replying. I am looking at afternoon session but it all depends on whether I can get a slot. As we are staying in Kallang area, we will need the school bus services. Is your boy in N1 class now? HOw is the school environment and teacher? Does he enjoy the class overall? I just want him to have fun while learning.
Hi,
Your child is born in 2012? You are under waiting list for registration? You may request the principal to bring you ard the sch to have a feel of how’s it like. When i tour ard the sch, it gives me the feel that the environment is fun and the kids are been guided by the teacher. They will sing songs along the way when they are changing to another room. -

Hi Memories,
DD is in Ascension for the second year. Started N1 last year in Mar (term2), as they do not accept children born after sept in term 1 as they find that they are too young.
The curriculum of the school is very good and the teachers are all very caring and motherly kind. You don't hear those shouting and raised voices like most of the child care centres that you visit. :lightrod:
My boy has developed a love for school and \"misses\" his friends whenever he is unable to make it for school. For N1 students, they will be having gym class once a week. And N2 has sports ball and structured gym once a week. A lot of time is dedicated to play and hands on activities, building self help skills and decision making by the children themselves.
In N1, the classes are taught basic letters only. Lots of free play.
In N2, the introduce a theme call \" You can do it\" and in incorporates getting to share, taking turns, building confidence in oneself, and persistence.
This program is good as they need to learn practical social skills as this age. They will only be starting to do readers now after completing the phonics sound in Term 1 and 2. So everything has a theme and classes are structured progressively and in a slow but acceptable pace for children their age.
What I like about the school is the holistic environment and teaching values.
School is well organised and functions well. The year end concert is one big event as the school is quite big. Last year the concert lasted a whole two hours! :boogie:
The principal is also a very hands on lady that is very visible and I'm amazed that she remembers most of the students in School!
I remember that when I was searching for info on the school and the net and couldn't find any and positive ones. But honestly, the school is very popular. But they just started 2 more N1 classes, making it 5 in total for N1. And as the class progresses, the school is getting bigger! Which I personally don't like the idea as the school premise and compound is fixed. Means fighting for space for a growing pool of students. I don't like the in between class transition, and that is a complete waste of time.
For K1 onwards, they will have compulsory computer time, which parents have to pay extra for the classes. Effectively taking away learning time from the 3 hour curriculum. I personally find that 3 hours learning is already very short. So enrichment is a must for me. Not saying that the computer class is not gd. But if parents are paying extra for those classes, shouldn't it be on top of the 3 hours?
Well, there is no perfect school out there. All have strengths and weaknesses. So it depends on what you want most and if the school is able to give you that.
For me, so long my boy is happy, able to develop holistically, and the teachers are good. I'm happy.

Hi,
thanks for such a detail sharing. Yes, this is what i like abt AK. Their environment, their way of handling kids and the way the lesson is been conducted. Under a happy environment, kids will be able to learn and develop better. Unfortunately, i am unable to secure a helper to look after my son so still looking around for help. -

hi mummies,
have anyone send their kid to AK and how you find it in terms of the curriculum. Have register and visit the sch, like their fun way of conducting lessons however just not sure for K1 and K2 this way of teaching is sufficient to prepare for pri 1. Also, if it is affilate to St Andrew. Am now considering between elim church which is nearer to me or AK. Would appreciate any advise/comments. Thanks.
