What is the answer to the vane Qn in PSLE science paper 2009? I forgot part of the Qn. Please post it if possible. Thank you. :lol:

sorry if you are not an adult pretending to be a 12 year old

the children i speak to, tend to ask
\"what did you write for this question?\"
\"what did you put for this question?\"
they dont go around after the paper and ask: see if you can come up a good answer for this ?
LOL LOL LOL

izzit this one?

a diagram of a vane painted with black and white stripes >> with a torch shining on it
what causes the vane to spin?

she attempted the ans this way;
the 'black' portions would absorb more heat relative to the 'white' portions
causing uneven temperature on the surface of the vane
the uneven temperature would cause air current around the surface of the vane, like the zebra cooling effect
the movement of air around the surface cause the vane to rotate...

need to see the diagram if they are vents or black/white stripes though...

right or wrong nvr mind, i think it was a good attempt by her :love:

regarding the pesticide question;

and RELATIONSHIPS between vegetables and caterpillars,
caterpillars and fruit trees

when population of caterpillars decrease
what happens to population of veg
what happens to population of fru

veg incr
fru decr

there's a question on circuits in booklet A... about the one with the light bulb that felt warm and did not light up. šŸ˜„

anybody knows if the answer is:
1)the light bulb is faulty
2)the circuit is closed

this question is tricky. a lot of people have different answers, mainly this two. does anyone remember the exact question???? šŸ‘… :frustrated:

It could be bulb faulty and it could also be circuit is closed but insufficient energy source, depending on the question. Need to know the exact question.

one possibility if faulty bulb;
there could be a short circuit, causing a brief surge in current, causing the heat in the bulb.

need to know question

my girl said biceps/triceps (is labelled as one letter) & the other one is the fulcrum - the elbow. So it is P & R?
friends,

my little one's ans is P and R
reason she gave is:

there were 2 diagrams
first one, a person holding the dumbbell, arms outstretched
and the second diagram, elbows bent, lifting the weight
question : which of the following is required to result in the second diagram (something like that)

key is what enabled diagram one to diagram 2

the other common ans is p q r , including the lower arm

Hmmmm - I am not sure I agree with you Mrs Low. Many students' concepts are clear and they would be able to handle these very sums if they just had more time. We have to look at the entire PSLE paper and not just these few questions we are discussing and under exam conditions.

It is very easy as an adult to expect perfection in all that's done, but i wonder if we remember these kids are just 11 or 12. This is an age to develop a love for the subject and kindle a passion for something they wld like to pursue later in life. And sorry scholars can bloom any time, if they are given the time and support to pursue their passion. Did you read abt the latest Nobel Prize winners ? Nothing close to the kind of scholars you are referring to ....

Sorry if i sound too strong, but truly there needs to b a mind set change ...

Having not enough time seemed to be the number one problem.
Hope parents take this early and train SPEED.

My little one finished paper2 with 40 min to go.
Her speed is limited to how fast she can write and how fast she can punch the calculator.

:shock:

kidding
I think you are absolutely naive to think that this is a question for the gifted. This question is poorly thought through and is academically flawed. It will not help Spore create a Bill Gates or a Steve Jobs.

If you want a really tough question, then MOE should ask what will be Lin's minimum speed. Lin's speed also cannot be less than 10km/hr otherwise the whole question breaks down. :stupid:
This is fault finding with the question.
Many P6 classmates of my little one could see and solve this question.
